NHL Betting Picks for Tuesday 5/14/24: Can the Panthers Finish Off the Bruins?

There are two more playoff games on Tuesday, and one team is facing elimination.

Whether it's moneylines or total goals, there are plenty of ways to bet on the NHL action all season. The playoffs can be tough to predict, but we should be able to find some markets that we like at the most exciting time of the year.

Let's dive into the best bets for tonight.

NHL Best Bets

Boston Bruins at Florida Panthers

Florida -1.5 (+134)

The Boston Bruins have lost the last three games, and this could be the end of the line for them tonight. After winning the first game of this series, they've now lost three in a row, and things are not looking good for them.

Dating back to the last series, the Bruins have now lost five of their last seven games. They'll also be without Brad Marchand, making a forward group that is bereft of playmakers even thinner.

The Florida Panthers, meanwhile, are rolling. They've won seven of nine games in the postseason so far. In four of those seven wins, they've scored at least five goals -- covering the -1.5 spread in each of them.

Florida has dominated this series from an underlying data perspective. They have 62.98% of the expected goals and 66.23% of the scoring chances.

It's hard to see Boston competing in this game, so I think Florida gets the job done tonight.

Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers

Vancouver +1.5 (-150)

In this matchup between two western Canadian teams, the Vancouver Canucks lead the series two games to one. Vancouver came into this series as a big underdog but has held its own.

The reason they were expected to struggle was because of the inexperience of Arturs Silovs in net with Thatcher Demko being injured in the last series. Silovs has held his own, saving 3.2 goals above expected in six playoff games.

On the other side, Stuart Skinner has not been playing well for the Edmonton Oilers. He has allowed 4.6 goals above expected, the second-most in the playoffs.

The one game Edmonton was able to win in this series went to overtime. The Canucks have been able to limit the Oilers to just five goals at five-on-five play in the three games. The key to containing Edmonton in the playoffs isn't hard to figure out -- don't put them on the power play and you have a shot to win the game.

numberFire's model likes Vancouver to be able to cover this spread 62.68% of the time, and the -150 odds suggest this happens 60% of the time. I'll take that small edge and bet on the Canucks +1.5 tonight.
