NHL Betting Picks for Tuesday 2/13/24: Bruins, Lightning Face Off in Divisional Clash

The NHL is locked in for a big Tuesday night as they have an 11-game slate set for tonight.

Whether it's moneylines or total goals, there are plenty of ways to bet on the NHL action all season. It's a long 82-game campaign, meaning that the best selections of each night can be very different based on backup goalies coming into play, injuries that add up, and if teams are due for positive or negative swings.

Let's dive into the best bets for tonight.

NHL Best Bets

Tampa Bay Lightning at Boston Bruins

Bruins ML (-154)

The Boston Bruins have been arguably the best team in hockey this season, and we're riding with them tonight against an inconsistent Tampa Bay Lightning team.

Boston continues to show complete dominance under head coach Jim Montgomery. So far on the year, the Bruins are 32-11-9 and have looked unstoppable on many nights. When Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci retired, this reality was a hard one to believe, but they keep rolling with the punches. A lot of that comes from their excellent play on both ends of the ice.

On the offensive end, they're scoring at a tune of 3.34 Goals For per 60 minutes, which is good for 10th in the NHL. Through their last 10 games, they rank second in hockey at a 3.80 clip. This is the right time to get them, as it's been their best scoring stretch all season.

Keeping the puck out of the net hasn't been a problem, either. When you have Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark as your two netminders, that isn't a shock. The Bruins are holding their opponents to just 2.54 Goals per 60 minutes, which is the league's third-lowest mark.

Ullmark is expected to be in net for the Bruins against a Tampa Bay team that hasn't lived up to their usual expectations. While they're averaging a sixth-best 3.39 Goals For per 60 minutes, it's on the defensive end and between the pipes where this team struggles. The Lightning are allowing 3.28 Goals Against per 60 minutes, ranking 26th in hockey.

The fix they expected when Andrei Vasilevskiy returned from offseason surgery did not occur, as the former Vezina winner has not been his usual self. He's got a fine 2.79 goals against average but just a .901 save percentage, both of which would be career worsts for him if the season ended today. Vasilevskiy will get the start against the Bruins, and the once-feared matchup isn't there anymore.

This game between division rivals should be a back-and-forth affair, but the Bruins are always a good bet to win on home ice (17-6-3).

Los Angeles Kings at Buffalo Sabres

Under 6.5 Goals (-130)

With a total being set at 6.5 Goals, the under is looking appealing in this matchup between the Los Angeles Kings and Buffalo Sabres.

Los Angeles has been exceptional at limiting their opponents. The Kings allow just 2.55 Goals per 60 minutes to their opponents, the third-best rate. That's all we're looking for them to follow up on tonight.

Scoring was once part of their dominance, but 3.12 Goals For per 60 minutes is what they're down to now. Over the last 25 games, they have an average of 2.51 Goals For per 60 minutes, which ranks 29th in the NHL.

The Sabres have not been the high-scoring team they were last year. This season, they're averaging just 2.89 Goals For per 60 minutes, placing 23rd overall. Buffalo is letting up 3.10 Goals Against.

David Rittich and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen are expected to start for each team. Rittich has been excellent in 12 games, recording a 1.90 goals against average and .931 save percentage. Luukkonen has been solid as the number one guy for Buffalo. He's made the majority of starts with a 2.60 goals against average, .909 save percentage, and 13.7 goals saved above expectation.

numberFire's model is projecting the Kings to finish with 2.89 goals while the Sabres are set for 2.41. That backs up the under on the total.

Detroit Red Wings at Edmonton Oilers

Red Wings +1.5 (-134)

Two of the hottest teams in the NHL will collide in the matchup of the night.

The Detroit Red Wings and the Edmonton Oilers have turned it up in the second half of the season. Over their last 10 games, the Red Wings are 7-2-1 and the Oilers are 8-2-0. These teams are meeting up at the right time.

Detroit is averaging the eighth-most goals in this stretch, averaging 3.38 Goals For per 60 minutes. Edmonton is behind them in that respect with 2.99 Goals For per 60 minutes through 10 games.

Defensively, the Oilers have been a tough team to crack in that span with 1.79 Goals Against per 60 minutes and a 50.63 Corsi Against -- top-two in each stat. The Red Wings have played some of their best defense in this stretch, too, seeing as they are letting up just 2.49 Goals Against per 60 minutes.

Alex Lyon and Stuart Skinner are going to keep it tight with how they're playing in net. Lyon is allowing just 2.54 goals, and Skinner is down to a 2.45 average. It's the perfect match, and it's why the Red Wings at +1.5 clicks for us as a bet to consider tonight.
