NHL Betting Picks for Monday 2/26/24: Bruins Looking for Answers Against Kraken

The week opens with a four-game NHL slate to pick from, and there's plenty to like tonight.

Whether it's moneylines or total goals, there are plenty of ways to bet on the NHL action all season. It's a long 82-game campaign, meaning that the best selections of each night can be very different based on backup goalies coming into play, injuries that add up, and if teams are due for positive or negative swings.

Let's dive into the best bets for tonight.

NHL Best Bets

Ottawa Senators at Washington Capitals

Senators ML (-120)

If there was ever a night to take the high-scoring Ottawa Senators, it'd be tonight against a broken down Washington Capitals.

The Capitals are expected to be without Evgeny Kuznetsov, T.J. Oshie, and Nic Dowd while the Senators will be at full strength. That should be the first sign of siding with Ottawa, but let's dig deeper with these two teams.

There's truth to the difficulty that comes with believing in Ottawa due to their inflated 3.48 Goals Against per 60 minutes. But at the rate that they can score, this game shouldn't be too much of a problem considering who isn't on the ice for Washington.

The Senators are 10th in Corsi For per 60 minutes (62.8) and 8th in Goals For per 60 minutes (3.32). Offensive output like that is what can be a difference maker and should be tonight -- even with Ottawa on the road.

Anton Forsberg is expected to be in net, and we're getting him at the right time. He's racked off four straight victories for Ottawa. He'll be up against Charlie Lindgren, who has allowed three or more goals in three of his last four starts.

Run with the Senators moneyline tonight as they're in a great spot to earn their third straight victory.

Boston Bruins at Seattle Kraken

Under 5.5 Goals (-106)

The Boston Bruins have gone to overtime in five straight games and are 2-3-0 in those, leaving them looking for answers heading into tonight.

Boston will finish up their west coast trip against the Seattle Kraken. With the total set at just 5.5 goals and the struggles these two teams have experienced, this is one time that taking the under feels right.

Over the last 10 games, each of these teams has had it rough in the goal-scoring department. The Bruins rank 29th with 2.41 Goals For per 60 minutes in their last 10 games. Meanwhile, the Kraken have been right around that same mark, scoring just 2.46 Goals For per 60 minutes, good for 28th in this same timeframe.

Each team has done well enough to keep the puck out of their nets also in the same span, with the Bruins letting up 3.08 Goals Against per 60 minutes and the Kraken allowing 2.66 Goals Against per 60 minutes.

These two teams played each other back on February 15th, and that game ended in a 4-1 win for the Kraken. These two aren't high-scoring commodities, especially with how the trip has gone for the Bruins. This is the chance to bank on a low-scoring game tonight.

numberFire's model gives this game a 52.70% likelihood of hitting under 5.5 goals, a slight improvement over the 51.5% implied probability.
