Yankees Analysis

After another loud offseason, the New York Yankees are aiming to win their first World Series in 15 years.

New York is coming off one of their most upsetting seasons as they missed the playoffs a year ago, going 82-80 and finishing in fourth place in the AL East. The decision to revamp their team wasn't unexpected, but it's what they did that should make everyone take notice. The Yankees made a move to acquire Juan Soto in a seven-player trade, bringing in help for 2022 AL MVP Aaron Judge.

Making that deal gives New York two big bats to lean on consistently, which was a big problem for them last season when Judge went down with injury. Improving their 24th-ranked wOBA (.304) is essential and should be expected. They also added Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham to give them depth in the outfield they previously did not have.

On the pitching side of things, the Yankees are going to need someone to step up in their rotation beyond Gerrit Cole. When New York signed Carlos Rodon, there was certainly an expectation of having a two-headed monster to lead their rotation with Nestor Cortes being a great third option after his breakout 2022.

Instead, both Rodon and Cortes had down seasons, forcing the Yankees to look for answers after Cole and having none. Both Rodon and Cortes will aim to bounce back, but the Yankees did bring in Marcus Stroman to sure up the rotation that much more. The right-hander earned his second All-Star nod a year ago and has shown a consistency that should help the Yankees' efforts to return to the Fall Classic.

They're out to prove doubters wrong -- and, more importantly, themselves right. If we're looking at the American League, there's an argument to be had that the Yankees have the most talented roster in league. Talent can only bring a team so far in baseball, but if there was a year for them to contend and finally win another AL pennant, this can be the year.
