Cleveland Cavaliers at Orlando Magic

I'm starting my daily picks by backing the NBA's hottest team. The Cleveland Cavaliers added to their winning streak over the weekend, grabbing their seventh consecutive victory. Following a 116-95 win on the road against the Atlanta Hawks, the Cavs will pay a visit to the Orlando Magic tonight.

After an impressive start to the season, Orlando is trending down with a 2-5 record while going 3-4 against the spread (ATS) over their last seven games. The offense, which has the seventh-worst rating, has really struggled at 100.6 points per game (PPG) over the last seven contests. The shooting efficiency hasn't been much better with a 44.1% field goal percentage (FG%) while converting 29.7% from three. Both are well below the Magic's 46.8 FG% (12th-worst) and 34.1% three-point percentage (2nd-worst) for the season.

Matching up with Cleveland could be a nightmare for Orlando's offense. The Cavaliers' defense has been about as good as it gets with their rating surging up the rankings. In fact, the unit now has the third-best defensive rating in the Association. During their winning streak, Cleveland has held opponents to only 98.4 PPG. The Cavs also have an excellent interior defense, which spells even more trouble for the Magic.

Orlando leans on two-point attempts with the eighth-most points in the paint per game. However, the Cavs have allowed only 42.4 points in the paint per game over their last five contests. Of course, this is significantly lower than the Magic's season average of 52.9 points in the paint. Cleveland's mark of 42.4 would also lead the league as the Chicago Bulls give up the fewest points in the paint at 43.7.

Ultimately, this just feels like a poor and untimely matchup for Orlando. Their strength is attacking the rim, and the Cavaliers' elite defense led by Dean Wade (108.3 defensive rating) and Jarrett Allen (111.8 defensive rating) in the frontcourt could cause another frustrating night for the Magic's offense.

Chicago Bulls at Phoenix Suns

Over 228.5 (-110)

According to FanDuel's NBA playoff odds, the Chicago Bulls are +250 to make the postseason while the Phoenix Suns are -430. These odds suggest that the teams are far apart. However, they may be closer than you think with the Bulls sitting at 21-23 while the Suns are 23-18.

One thing's for sure: Chicago and Phoenix are both playing exceptional ball ahead of Monday's clash. The Bulls are 6-2 over their last eight games, and the Suns are riding a five-game winning streak. Which hot streak will be extinguished in tonight's meeting?

Despite the recent good play, neither team has been reliable ATS; Chicago is 2-3 ATS over their last five, and Phoenix is 2-2-1 ATS during their winning streak. Instead of picking a side for the spread -- which favors the Suns by five -- betting on the total could be the best bet.

The offenses are rolling, which points to taking over 228.5 points. The Bulls' offense has been like a stick stuck in the mud this season, holding the eighth-worst offensive rating. However, this has changed in recent games with Chicago totaling 118.3 PPG over their previous seven contests.

The Bulls have enjoyed more success than usual from beyond the three-point line. During the seven-game stretch, Chicago has eclipsed 40.0% from deep on four occasions. Meanwhile, the Suns have a pretty mediocre perimeter defense, giving up the 14th-most three-point shots per game while opponents cash in 37.0% of their looks from deep (13th-worst for a defense). This could mean the Bulls' sharpshooters are poised for big outings, including Alex Caruso (9.8 PPG), who has made 9 of 18 three-pointers (50.0%) over his last four. Zach LaVine (19.5 PPG) will be out with an ankle injury, though, and he totals the second-most three-point shots on the team.

Phoenix, who is averaging 122.6 PPG during their winning streak, also has some advantages with their rolling big three. Kevin Durant (29.2 PPG), Devin Booker (27.0 PPG), and Bradley Beal (18.0 PPG) have combined for at least 78 points in four of the last five. This is beginning to look like what many expected after the Suns landed Beal via trade. The elite scoring trio are consistently taking turns with monster performances. For example, Beal poured in 37 points on January 11th, Bookers erupted for 52 on January 19th, and Durant totaled 40 points on January 21st.

The Bulls have a solid defensive rating (15th-best), but most of Chicago's defensive stats are quite underwhelming. This includes the 13th-worst mark in opponent effective field goal percentage (eFG%), the 11th-worst mark in opponent two-point percentage, and they give up the 2nd-most three-point attempts per contest.

After converting 40.7% of their looks from three over the last four games, the Suns could feast from deep. Their three-point volume has also increased during the stretch with 36.3 shots per game -- compared to their season average of 31.7 (seventh-fewest). This comes at the perfect time as Phoenix faces off with a weak perimeter defense on Monday.

Additionally, the Suns' star could be poised for big games. The Bulls' starters Coby White (115.5 defensive rating) and Patrick Williams (116.6 defensive rating) could struggle on the defensive end. White will likely draw Beal or Booker, and Williams could be tasked with slowing KD.
