MLB Same Game Parlay Bets for Monday 5/20/24

Minnesota Twins at Washington Nationals

Pablo Lopez to Record 6+ Strikeouts (-200)
Mitchell Parker Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-172)
Ryan Jeffers to Record a Hit (-260)

Combined Odds: +203

Pablo Lopez can sometimes be susceptible to giving up home runs, but he's also one of the best strikeout pitchers in baseball. The right-handed ace for the Minnesota Twins is permitting a career-worst 1.25 HR/9 in 2024 while also being in the 75th percentile in whiff rate (29.7%) and 83rd percentile in strikeout rate (28.7%) in his first nine starts.

Despite racking up only 3 Ks in his previous start, Lopez has posted six-plus Ks in seven of his nine appearances on the mound. Even though the Washington Nationals aren't a strikeout-prone team, they are around league average with the 17th-highest strikeout rate (22.0%) against right-handed pitching, and they have the 12th-highest swing rate on pitches outside of the zone (31.1%).

On the other hand, Mitchell Parker has experienced some woes on the bump for the Nationals in recent starts. Besides giving up five-plus hits and multiple earned runs in three straight starts, Parker is in just the 16th percentile in whiff rate (19.9%) and 32nd percentile in strikeout rate (19.5%).

When facing right-handed batters, Parker has just a 18.8% strikeout rate, compared to a 20.9% strikeout rate to lefties. This is notable considering the Twins could deploy a lineup with nine right-handed hitters due to having a couple of switch-hitters at their disposal.

Speaking of right-handed bats on the Twins, Ryan Jeffers should bat leadoff versus a southpaw on Monday. Jeffers has recorded at least one hit in 12 of his last 16 games, and he's sporting a .377 wOBA, .250 ISO, and 147 wRC+ against left-handed pitchers this year.

Los Angeles Angels at Houston Astros

Kyle Tucker to Record 2+ Total Bases (+120)
Houston Astros Over 4.5 Total Runs (-108)

Combined Odds: +244

It doesn't matter what handed pitching Kyle Tucker is facing right now; the All-Star outfielder for the Houston Astros just continues to rake. Throughout his last 13 games, Tucker has a hit in 11 of those contests, three multi-hit performances, four doubles, and seven home runs.

Recording two-plus bases has been a profitable prop to take for Tucker in 10 of his last 13 appearances. You can get Tucker at +370 odds to hit a home run in Monday's Angels-Astros matchup.

Reid Detmers of the Los Angeles Angels will be the next starting pitcher that Tucker goes up against, and the left-handed hurler has been mightily struggling in recent starts. In his last four outings, Detmers has surrendered six-plus hits in three of them, and he's permitted four-plus earned runs in all of them.

Across his first nine starts in 2024, Detmers is allowing a .351 wOBA and 2.08 HR/9 to lefties, compared to a .328 wOBA and 0.96 HR/9 to righties. Meanwhile, Tucker is logging a .436 wOBA, .333 ISO, and 187 wRC+ versus left-handed pitching this season.

With Detmers giving up four-plus earned runs in four straight times on the bump, we'll back the Astros to plate five-plus runs. Houston has scored five-plus runs in five of their last eight contests, and Los Angeles' bullpen is registering the ninth-worst SIERA (3.82) and fourth-worst HR/9 (1.24).

Arizona Diamondbacks at Los Angeles Dodgers

Freddie Freeman to Record a Run (+100)
Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (-115)

Combined Odds: +213

Joe Mantiply is projected to open Monday's game for the Arizona Diamondbacks before giving way to Slade Cecconi. Aside from not pitching two-plus innings in any of his 21 appearances out of the bullpen this season, Mantiply is in the 30th percentile in strikeout rate (19.2%), fifth percentile in barrel rate (13.2%), and eighth percentile in hard-hit rate (47.2%).

Those metrics are a recipe for disaster against a Los Angeles Dodgers team that is posting the fourth-lowest strikeout rate (19.1%), third-best wOBA (.345), and third-best wRC+ (127) against southpaws. Just because Mantiply is starting the game doesn't mean we should avoid the left-handed bats of the Dodgers in this matchup.

Cecconi is expected to take over for Mantiply in this contest, recording a 4.67 SIERA and an alarming 59% flyball rate in five starts this year. While Los Angeles has the 14th-highest strikeout rate (23.1%) versus right-handed pitching, they are also registering the third-best ISO (.182), third-best wOBA (.337), and third-best wRC+ (121) in that split.

Of the left-handed bats on the Dodgers who can do damage against either right or left-handed pitchers, Freddie Freeman is someone who can provide value in this SGP. Hitting out of the three-spot for the majority of the season has Freeman sitting with the third-most runs scored (30) on the Dodgers.

With plenty of talented hitters slotted behind him in Los Angeles' daunting lineup, Freeman has recorded at least one run in 11 of his last 14 games. Lastly, we'll take the Dodgers to win by multiple runs in Monday's NL West showdown with the Diamondbacks.

Arizona will be leaning on Mantiply, Cecconi, and their bullpen while Los Angeles will have ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto taking the mound for his 10th start of the campaign. In 11 of the 13 wins the Dodgers have tallied in May, they've won by two-plus runs.
