MLB Same Game Parlay Bets for Friday 6/14/24
Tampa Bay Rays at Atlanta Braves
Chris Sale Over 7.5 Strikeouts (+102)
Marcell Ozuna to Record 2+ Total Bases (-120)
Combined Odds: +258
Chris Sale is still one of the elite strikeout artists in baseball, ranking in the 97th percentile in chase rate (36.5%), 87th percentile in whiff rate (31.2%), and 91st percentile in strikeout rate (31.1%) through 12 starts for the Atlanta Braves. Over his last seven starts, Sale has achieved eight-plus Ks, and he draws a favorable matchup versus the Tampa Bay Rays at home on Friday.
Against left-handed pitching, the Rays are logging the fourth-highest strikeout rate (25.3%) and eighth-lowest ISO (.126). On top of that, Tampa Bay is recording the eighth-highest swinging rate on pitches outside of the zone (32.9%), so Sale's chase rate should come in handy.
With Sale reaching nine-plus Ks in five of his last seven outings, it's worth mentioning that his alternate strikeouts prop of nine-plus is sitting at +200 odds and 10-plus is carrying +370 odds.
Marcell Ozuna is swinging a hot bat for the Braves, and Zack Littell has shown a tendency of giving up plenty of hits when he's on the mound. Littell has allowed six-plus hits in four of his last five starts while he's permitting a .313 wOBA and 1.31 WHIP to right-handed batters.
Meanwhile, Ozuna has tallied two-plus bases in six of his last seven games -- with multiple hits in all six contests. Ozuna also boasts a .433 wOBA or better against Littell's three primary pitches (slider, sinker, splitter) he throws to right-handed bats while earning +260 odds to hit a home run.
Detroit Tigers at Houston Astros
Tarik Skubal to Record 5+ Strikeouts (-410)
Hunter Brown to Record 5+ Strikeouts (-295)
Riley Greene to Record a Run (+100)
Combined Odds: +282
Another starting pitcher who has emerged as a strikeout extraordinaire is Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers. Skubal -- who has the shortest odds to win the American League Cy Young (+130) -- has the fifth-best SIERA (2.66) and sixth-best xFIP (2.59) in baseball while operating in the 91st percentile in strikeout rate (31.1%).
The matchup isn't ideal for Skubal as the Houston Astros are registering the lowest strikeout rate (15.7%) against southpaws. That being said, Skubal has five-plus Ks in all 13 of his starts in 2024, and he owns a 27.9% strikeout rate versus the current roster of the Astros.
Hunter Brown didn't have a stellar start to the campaign, but he's looked better in recent outings. Besides allowing two or fewer earned runs in three of his last four starts, Brown has racked up five-plus Ks in eight of his last nine appearances.
Detroit certainly presents a better matchup for Brown than Skubal as the Tigers are posting the seventh-highest strikeout rate (24.1%) against right-handed pitchers. Even with that being the case, Riley Greene has been seeing the ball well in recent contests.
Despite Brown's recent stretch of success, Greene is amid a four-game hit streak and has scored a run in five consecutive games. Brown is giving up a .341 wOBA, 1.43 WHIP, and 10.3% walk rate to left-handed hitters, so there are a few ways for Greene to cross home plate in Friday's showdown.
Chicago White Sox at Arizona Diamondbacks
Christian Walker to Record 2+ Total Bases (-105)
Luis Robert to Record 2+ Total Bases (+100)
Combined Odds: +309
Christian Walker and Luis Robert have both displayed plenty of power in recent games, and they'll both have advantageous matchups on Friday. Throughout his last 10 games for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Walker has totaled two-plus bases in seven of them -- including three multi-hit performances, four doubles, and three homers in that span.
Chris Flexen is expected to make his 13th start of the year for the Chicago White Sox. He ranks in the 29th percentile in xERA (4.41) and 31st percentile in barrel rate (8.7%) up to this point. While Flexen is performing worse against lefties this season, Walker is sporting a .366 wOBA, 139 wRC+, and .245 ISO when facing right-handed pitching.
Robert made his return on June 4 following a stint on the injured list, and he's combined to hit five long balls in his first nine games back. The talented outfielder is hitting for power against right-handed pitchers, accruing a .449 ISO and .633 SLG in that split in 2024.
Ryne Nelson is showing reverse splits on the bump, permitting a .462 wOBA, .624 SLG, and 2.38 WHIP to righties, compared to a .319 wOBA, .452 SLG, and 1.22 WHIP to lefties. Nelson is also sitting in the 14th percentile in average exit velocity (90.5 MPH), 24th percentile in barrel rate (9.2%), and 20th percentile in hard-hit rate (43.2%) across 10 starts.
Given the matchups and their recent form, Robert is being given +330 odds to hit a home run and Walker has +360 odds in the same market on Friday.
