MLB Betting: Who Wins the Seoul Series Opener Between the Dodgers and Padres?

Baseball has you covered if you want a large inventory of options to bet.

From moneylines to run totals to first-five-inning wagers, we have plenty of ways to bet for the opening Seoul Series. Outlooks can be vastly different due to starting pitchers, and a wealth of advanced stats can let us know if an individual pitcher, a bullpen, or a team is due for positive -- or negative -- regression.

Using numberFire's projections as a guide, which MLB odds from FanDuel Sportsbook are most appealing for Wednesday?

MLB Seoul Series Best Bets

Dodgers -1.5 (-120)

The Los Angeles Dodgers will kick off their pursuit of a World Series crown on Wednesday at 6:05 a.m. ET, and they'll try to do so in dominant fashion against the San Diego Padres.

Expectations are through the roof for the Dodgers after an offseason that saw them add Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and more to a team that already had Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and others. The Seoul Series should be their perfect liftoff point, and I'm taking them to cover the run line in the opener.

Los Angeles had one of the best offenses in baseball last year while the Padres were just pretty good. And to add to the Padres' shortcomings for 2024, they no longer have Juan Soto, so that's not great. The Padres ranked 12th with a .323 wOBA last season while the Dodgers finished 2nd at .341. The Dodgers, who have added the 70 combined homers of Ohtani and Teoscar Hernandez to their lineup, smashed 249 homers last season, again ranking second in the majors. San Diego was 13th with 205.

Then there's the pitching matchup, which also tilts in LA's favor.

Tyler Glasnow will get the start, marking his first as a member of the Dodgers. When healthy, he's been lights out the past three seasons. In 120 innings a year ago, he pitched to a 3.08 SIERA and 2.91 FIP. He should be able to outduel Yu Darvish. Darvish's prime appears to be behind him -- as shown by his 4.04 SIERA and 4.56 ERA from 2023 in addition to the lowest strikeout rate of his career at 24.6%. Overall, the Padres ranked 16th in the majors with a 4.16 SIERA.

I expect Los Angeles to take care of business to kick off the 2024 campaign.

Tyler Glasnow Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-102)

Let's ride with Tyler Glasnow on Wednesday. It's easy to love the new Dodgers' ace to start the 2024 campaign.

Along with his great 3.08 SIERA last season, Glasnow was again proving that he's a strikeout artist on the mound. The 30-year-old had a 33.4% strikeout rate in his 120 innings last season. Since 2019, he has had a K rate of 33.0% or higher in every season. He's one of the best at missing bats, and it's why betting on him getting seven or more strikeouts on Wednesday.

San Diego did well to limit their strikeouts last season, with their lineup striking out at a rate of only 21.2%. While that's worrisome for this prop, it's the start of the season -- these lineups aren't going to be in tip-top shape right off the rip, especially a Padres lineup that is unproven on the backend with bats like Graham Pauley and Jackson Merrill taking up spots. Glasnow could breeze through the backend of San Diego's lineup.

Finally, the only 2024 metric that we can go off is Spring Training numbers -- where Glasnow dominated in limited action. The righty pitched just 10 innings, but that turned into 14 strikeouts, good for a 38.9% strikeout rate. Those are the statistics you want to see coming out of spring, and it's why I'm into this over.

Oh, and out of 21 starts last season, Glasnow hit 7 or more strikeouts 15 times. Sign me up.
