MLB Betting: How Much Did Jacob deGrom's Injury Impact the Rangers' World Series Odds?
In baseball, it's tough for one player to have a giant impact on a team's overall outlook -- even if that player is one of the game's best pitchers.
But we did see a noteworthy shift in the World Series odds for the Texas Rangers after news broke that Jacob deGrom is out for the rest of the season due to Tommy John surgery.
Per the World Series odds at FanDuel Sportsbook, Texas was +1500 to win it all as of Monday, but that number jumped to +2000 after the deGrom news. That +2000 number gives the Rangers the 10th-best odds.
Not all hope is lost, though. The Rangers still boast one of baseball's best offenses, a unit that is first in runs scored (386) and second in wOBA (.347). Marcus Semien owns the 4th-best MVP odds (+2100) while Adolis Garcia carries the 14th-best odds (+8000).
The Rangers' rotation -- led by Nathan Eovaldi (2.79 expected ERA) -- checks in 12th in xFIP (4.17), and that's with deGrom tossing just 30 1/3 frames this season.
Texas is +150 to win the American League West and +850 to win the American League. FanGraphs' projections give the Rangers an 80.8% chance to make the postseason, the third-highest odds in the American League.
There's still a lot to like about Texas despite the unfortunate deGrom news.
