MLB Betting: Arizona Diamondbacks Player Awards Parlay

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been one of the most pleasant surprises of the 2023 MLB regular season.

Into the first week of July, the ballclub sits atop the NL West with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants nearby in the standings. The D-backs have been led by two of their All-Star selections in 2023: right-handed pitcher Zac Gallen and rookie center fielder Corbin Carroll.

Notably, Carroll has been a dynamic spark plug in the lineup for Arizona. Showcasing both speed and power in 2023, the National League Rookie of the Year odds have Carroll as a massive (-650) favorite to win the award even before the All-Star break.

On the mound, Gallen has been masterful in his fifth year. Originally a product of the University of North Carolina, Gallen is one of the National League's best hurlers in 2023. Near the midway point of the season, he is among the leaders in wins, strikeouts, and ERA. In early July, the NL Cy Young odds show Gallen at +240 to win -- also the market favorite but much longer priced.

So, why not head to FanDuel and play them both in the all-Diamondback future combo MLB Player Awards parlay? Combining pitcher with outfielder:

Corbin Carroll to Win NL Rookie of the Year & Zac Gallen to Win NL Cy Young +250

Leg 1 - Corbin Carroll to Win 2023 NL Rookie of the Year

At this point in the year, Carroll has already begun to receive consideration for NL MVP (+3500; fifth-shortest price on FanDuel Sportsbook) as well as NL ROY. Not only has Carroll been named a National League All-Star, but he will start the Midsummer Classic in the outfield alongside elite players Mookie Betts and Ronald Acuna Jr.

Transparently, there is simply no more straight value on playing Carroll in the ROY market at -650 odds. His 24 stolen bases (second-most in NL) and 18 home runs have made him a league-wide sensation. Carroll ranks fourth in all of Major League Baseball in OPS at .930. His weighted on-base average (wOBA) is also impressive at .394 right now.

Cincinnati Reds phenoms Matt McLain and Elly De La Cruz are both showstopping players, but Carroll just has too far of a jump on the two infielders. Carroll has played 82 games before the break, whereas McLain is approaching 50 appearances and De La Cruz is only about 30 contests into his MLB career.

Leg 2 - Zac Gallen to Win 2023 NL Cy Young

As the less certain leg in this MLB Player Awards same team parlay, Gallen is still the NL Cy Young frontrunner (+240 odds) at FanDuel Sportsbook headed into the final weekend before the All-Star game. At the moment, Clayton Kershaw (+350) and Spencer Strider (+600) are the next closest in the NL Cy Young market.

Given Kershaw's lofty age of 35, I comparatively prefer Gallen's chances with longevity. However, being in the same division, we may get a few Gallen-Kershaw head-to-head battles down the stretch. Strider certainly has a shot to make a run at the Cy Young, but Gallen has currently allowed fewer runs despite working more innings than the Atlanta Braves hurler.

Last active on July 2, there is a chance Gallen does not throw until the ASG in Seattle, where he may end up as the starting pitcher. If that's the case, he will head into the break with a 10-3 record (tied-most wins in NL), 3.15 ERA, and 120 strikeouts. All of those figures rank near the top of the league. Additionally, Gallen is currently sporting his best strikeout-walk rate (K-BB%) of his career: 21.7%

Conclusion

Given his multi-faceted dominance on the field, Carroll essentially has the 2023 National League Rookie of the Year award won already. The fact that Arizona -- who lost a league-worst 110 games in 2021 -- has managed to turn their play around so expeditiously bodes well for Carroll's chances.

With no value in the ROY market, it makes more sense to parlay Carroll along with another likely season award recipient from the Diamondbacks. Bringing the parlay total to +250 odds, Gallen is currently the favorite to be named the 2023 National League Cy Young. He has performed strongly throughout the entire season and is among the top pitchers in all significant categories.

Acknowledging all this Arizona chatter, it is worthwhile to mention that as of July 6th, the D-backs have +340 odds to win the NL West, +1200 odds to win the National League, and +2800 odds to win the 2023 World Series at FanDuel Sportsook.
