MLB Betting: 3 Best Player Prop Bets for Tuesday 7/9/24

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, here are some MLB player props bets that look appealing via the MLB odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Please note that betting lines and projections may change throughout the day after this article is published. Also, the weather may be an issue in some locations.

MLB Player Props

Kyle Schwarber to Hit a Home Run (+235)

The top teams in the National League will collide for the first of a three-game series tonight. The stars will be out as the Philadelphia Phillies' Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber are eligible to return from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday.

Schwarber is expected to make his return, but Harper's status is more unknown. If either player is back, the Phillies will have much more power in their lineup as they lead the team with 20 (Harper) and 17 (Schwarber) home runs.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers' Bobby Miller recently returned from injury on June 19th. The second-year starter is still getting his feet wet and will make his fourth appearance since returning.

Miller hasn't been the most fearsome pitcher with a 6.75 ERA while opponents are batting .280 over his previous four outings. He's also given up a home run in five of six starts this season and is currently in the bottom 20% of hard-hit percentage, per Savant. This is a prime opportunity on Dinger Tuesday for one of Philly's sluggers to flourish.

The answer could be Schwarber. Miller's top three most-used pitches are his four-seam fastball (44.4%), changeup (19.0%), and curveball (14.8%). Schwarber -- who is batting .250 this season -- is hitting above average against fastballs (.260) while totaling eight dingers against the pitch. Miller also features a sinker (10.4%), and Schwarber bats .373 against this pitch.

Miller has consistently allowed hard contact, and Schwarber has the tools to slug against the L.A. starter's heat. Schwarber looks likely to go boom in his first game back from injury.

Nick Lodolo Under 6.5 Strikeouts (-120)

Nick Lodolo is another player returning off of the injury list today; this usually means a shortened start for pitchers. We should expect a brief start out of the Cincinnati Reds' hurler on Tuesday.

That's one check mark for under 6.5 strikeouts and it doesn't stop there. The southpaw starter wasn't providing consistent Ks throughout June, failing to surpass six strikeouts in three of five starts. He also did not total seven Ks once over three outings in May. Lodolo has reached seven strikeouts in only two of his previous eight starts.

FanDuel Research's projections are not expecting a huge day from Lodolo either, for he has a forecasted K total of 5.17.

While Lodolo is facing one of MLB's most strikeout happy batting orders in the Colorado Rockies, a brief start and recent production will likely hold back the Reds' hurler from reaching the over.

Corey Seager to Record 3+ Total Bases (+125)

The Texas Rangers' Corey Seager has been like the human torch, riding a 13-game hitting streak. The four-time All-Star shortstop has shown no signs of slowing down. In fact, he's still heating up.

Seager has posted two hits in three consecutive contests, and he's batting an absurd .417 over six games in July. The Rangers' star infielder is mirroring the scorching summer weather, tearing up opposing pitchers with his hot streak.

This could be about as easy as it gets for a batter to record two total bases, so perhaps three bases is the way to go. Seager could accomplish it with one swing of the bat thanks to his .875 slugging percentage (SLG) this month.

The Los Angeles Angels aren't even featuring a traditional starter on the mound tonight as Roansy Contreras has made 21 of his 23 appearances as a reliever in 2024. The Halos will likely feature several pitchers tonight and go deep into their bullpen, for Contreras has not gone past the third inning in starts this season.

Early on Seager could shine since Contreras is in the 11th percentile of hard-hit percentage. Plus, L.A. has the third-highest team bullpen ERA; leaning on the bullpen will probably spell trouble.

Don't expect Seager's hot streak to let up tonight. Reaching three bases looks like an even better bet considering the shortstop has done so in three of his past five games.
