NCAA Tournament Betting: Who Will Be a No. 1 Seed?

The college basketball season is nearing a close with around a month remaining in the regular season. That means that Selection Sunday is on the horizon, and March Madness will be part of our lives again.

With the regular season approaching a conclusion, we have a decent grasp of what teams could earn a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. While the Purdue Boilermakers and the UConn Huskies are massive favorites to land a No. 1 seed in the tourney, there are other teams with better value in the March Madness odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Let's take a quick look at some of the best bets to secure a top seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament in college basketball.

College Basketball 1 Seed Best Bets

Here are the teams with the 13 shortest odds to get a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Team
NCAA Tourney No. 1 Seed Odds
Purdue-4000
Connecticut-2400
Houston-400
Arizona-140
Tennessee+115
North Carolina+420
Alabama+1200

Tennessee (+115)

The Tennessee Volunteers are the No. 6 team in the AP Top 25 rankings with a 17-5 record through their first 22 games. The Volunteers recently defeated a highly-ranked Kentucky Wildcats squad on the road, and they have other impressive wins over Mississippi and Illinois.

Along with being the No. 6 program in the AP Top 25 rankings, Tennessee is No. 6 in Ken Pom's ratings. When taking the court, the Volunteers lean on senior guard Dalton Knecht, who is averaging 20.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.

While the Volunteers have the fourth-best conference record (7-2) in the SEC, they still have crucial matchups against Alabama, Auburn, and South Carolina remaining on their schedule. If Tennessee can sift its way through the rest of its daunting SEC matchups relatively unscathed, there's a chance it can secure a top seed in the tournament.

North Carolina (+420)

One team that has generated buzz throughout the season is the UNC Tar Heels. The Tar Heels are currently sitting at No. 3 in the AP Top 25 rankings, putting them behind only Purdue and UConn.

Despite falling to Clemson at home in their most recent outing, North Carolina has notable wins over Arkansas, Duke, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. Besides having a double-double machine in Armando Bacot, the Tar Heels have four players who produce 10-plus points per game, including senior guard RJ Davis (21.3 PPG).

North Carolina paces the ACC with a 10-2 conference record, and its only remaining game against a current-ranked opponent is its regular-season finale versus Duke. As long as the Tar Heels avoid any slip-ups to finish the season, they are in a decent spot to be announced as a No. 1 seed.

Kansas (+1900)

Things are going to get mighty interesting in the SEC and Big 12 to finish the 2023-2024 college basketball campaign. While they may not be getting the attention they garnered before the season, the Kansas Jayhawks are the No. 4 team in the AP Top 25 and No. 13 in Ken Pom's ratings.

Bill Self typically has the Jayhawks playing their best basketball at this time of year, and the program is only two years removed from their last college basketball title. After a stellar home victory over Houston, Kansas immediately followed that up with an overtime loss on the road to Kansas State recently.

Four of the five losses that the Jayhawks have on their schedule have come since January, which has decreased their chances of being a one-seed in this year's tournament. But having an experienced trio of KJ Adams (12.7 PPG), Kevin McCullar (19.5 PPG), and Hunter Dickinson (18.9 PPG) -- along with a proven coach like Self -- make the Jayhawks a solid value at these odds.
