Verdict

LANDMAN (1) returns from a six-month break but showed plenty of ability when winning on debut over 5 ½f at Woodville last prep, and then racing well in some good fields before having a spell. He will be stronger now, and even without a public tune-up trial, he is the one to beat. ALBAROSSA (2) improved sharply last start when scoring by more than a length over 5f at Tauherenikau nearly 4 weeks ago. He stays in the same grade, and an extra 4lbs may not be enough to stop him from winning again. PERFECT PETE (7) is a consistent type who needed his fresh-up run at Otaki a fortnight ago, and he can easily run into the placings, especially if the track is wet. TONGUE IN CHEEK (3) showed a great turn of foot to score fresh up at Hawera over 6f nearly 2 weeks ago. He is likely to settle back from a wide gate, and there is no reason why he can't have the last say again. OUR AKASHINGA (5) is probably better on the poly surface, but she is resuming, and a top 4 finish would be no surprise.
