Verdict

PETITE ROCHER (13) won a trial before making an encouraging debut at Whanganui, where she just missed out on winning by a nose. She gets a big swing in her draw here, and with Craig Grylls replacing an apprentice, she can go one better. SUPER LEGOCY (1) has continued to improve with racing, and was a brave third in a decent field at Ellerslie nearly 3 weeks ago. He cops another tricky gate, and with some early luck, he can figure in the top 4 again. ADLERIAN (10) set up a strong clip in front at Ellerslie just over 7 weeks ago, and folded up in the run home. She will enjoy racing in an anti-clockwise direction here, and she is worth another chance. FAT ALBERT (2) had an excuse last start when pulling up after the race mildly lame 6 weeks ago. The extra 1f will suit him, and if he doesn't need the hit-out, then he is worth including in all top 4 combos. TOMAHAWK (19) was a beaten favourite on debut, and then improved to finish fourth at Ruakaka. He is peaking now, so stick with him.

Form hard to fault. Most recently 3rd of 14 at Ellerslie on January 11 over 7f, 2 len behind Atkins with 129lbs at $20.20. The start before that 3rd of 10 at New Plymouth Raceway on December 27 over 7f, on a slow track, 2 len behind Wild At Heart with 129lbs at $6.60. This looks the ideal assignment.

Third-up today. Resumes off a 50 day letup. First-up 4th of 8 at New Plymouth Raceway on November 21 over 6f, slow going 8 len behind Miss Anna Lee carrying 122lbs at $8.80. Last start failed to make an impression, ran last of 10 at Ellerslie on December 11 over 7f, slow going 10 len behind Fleeting Star with 125lbs at $33.80. Has been out of the money recently but finds the right race this time and gets her chance to feature.
