She won a trial before that, and the extra ½f this time makes her the one to beat. Follow your money. CLARA BOW (8) hit the line hard here 3 weeks ago when finishing third on debut over 7f. She is drawn to receive a cosy run near the fence, and she will also relish the extra ½f. Can win. CLASSIC CHAMPAGNE (1) resumed from a spell that would have done her the world of good and finished less than a length from the winner in second at Ellerslie just over 3 weeks ago. She has a tougher gate this time, but her first win is not far away. TYPHOON LUCY (10) fought on strongly to finish fourth on debut at Ellerslie, and is bred to improve with time as she gets out over more ground. If the tempo is genuine, then she can run into a top 4 spot again. GADABOUT (2) was a touch disappointing last time out at Ruakak. Stick with her.

Scratch

A horse is a scratch when injury or other necessity causes it to be withdrawn from the race.

Main Track Only

A horse entered for main track only (MTO) is one hoping the weather forecast or track conditions will move the race off the turf course and onto the main track. They are scratched the morning of the race if the conditions stay dry.

Claiming Race

A race in which horses are entered for a certain price, or claiming tag, which is also their sales price. An owner can claim any horse entered for the tag before the race begins, and owns them as soon as the gates open.
