ATAVUS (7) has needed time to mature and was last seen since finishing fourth over 1m at New Plymouth last season in late May. He meets a modest field, and despite copping a wide gate, he can make his presence felt. Check the market moves. DANCING FANTAIL (3) charged home to grab third over 6 ¾f at Wanganui last start. He will be peaking third up, and with Rory Hutchings in the saddle this time, he will go close to taking this out. SUMMIT UP (5) has had a couple of starts, placing on debut before finishing fourth, beaten 3 lengths, over 7f at Otaki 3 weeks ago. He is well placed out to a mile and gets his chance to break through. THE KING OF JAZZ (9) improved sharply at his second run, finishing a close second over 1m at New Plymouth just over 2 weeks ago. He has upside and is worth including in all top 4 combos. CHARMING EMPEROR (1) is a lightly tried 5-year-old gelding that is improving with each start this prep. Stick with him on an each-way basis.
