Verdict

Not the strongest renewal of the Oaksey Chase, and BLOW YOUR WAD, who has been in the form of his life for the Moores of late, probably won't need to better his recent efforts to come out on top. Doyen Quest has quickly developed into a smart chaser this season and is entitled to strip fitter for his recent run at Aintree which came after a break. Matterhorn should have no problem with the extra 2f and warrants respect, too.

Doyen Quest (Ire) silk

Useful hurdler who quickly developed into a smart chaser this season, putting his proving fitness and chasing experience to good use to score at Exeter (3m) in November. Has acquitted himself well in graded company since, possibly needing the run after 11 weeks off at Aintree on most recent outing.

Matterhorn (Fr) silk

Won first 4 starts in handicap chases in 2024 and back on the up with a bang last spring, easily winning 2½m Uttoxeter handicap. Showed nothing at Ascot in December but got back on track when beaten only by a younger rival at Plumpton (17f) 4 months later. Must be respected on this first try at 2¾m.
