CATALONA (9) is right in the mix after a forgiving fifth at Kyneton, where she raced wide and was still beaten just under six lengths after leading. Her previous Echuca second, beaten half a length after jumping awkwardly and striking some trouble near the 2f, gives her a strong enough platform to stretch to 1 ¼m for the first time and she profiles as the runner with the most upside among the main hopes. DANE ON TOUR (6) was plain at Kilmore but her Bairnsdale win over Colour Circle two starts back reads well for this level, and she has a solid season profile. PHANTOM'S CHASE (7) was only beaten three lengths at Hamilton after beginning slowly and being held up, with his earlier Echuca second keeping him right in calculations. KING KAUFFO (4) brings the most consistent recent record, has a strong 1 ¼m profile and gets another chance after two runner-up finishes, though the rise from BM52 and Class 1 company makes this a slightly tougher test.
