Verdict

PRESTAR (3) pushed forward last time and battled on gamely to finish just a nose from the winner in second over 6f at Caulfield Heath when fresh from a break. Should go forward again from a good gate. Has the ability to build on that encouraging effort last start. WHISKEY JOE (11) is a blueblood colt who looks the most progressive horse in the race and he rounded preparations for this with a nice Cranbourne jumpout win. IMPENDING WAR (1) hasn't really kicked on as a 3YO but the first-up run was in a tougher race than this and he won the Elvstroem Classic second-up this time last year, so deserves another chance. KAGEMUSHA (2) is also a second-up winner and the bold first-up effort suggests he'll carry on the consistent form of last prep. RIPROAR (4) wasn't disgraced in city class last time when finishing fourth at Sandown-Lakeside. Will find this easier than last start and is one to consider.

Second-up. First-up after five months 10th of 12 at Sandown-Lakeside Bm70 on May 31 over 7f, slow going 7 len behind Silent Shares carrying 128lbs at $9.50. Previously second-up ran last of 9 at Cranbourne 3yo Bm70 on December 27 over 7f, 11 len behind Davida with 123lbs at $6. Forgive the first-up run in a stronger race than this because he has won second-up before.
