Verdict

MUST BE SAIN (2) ran a nice race first-up at Cranbourne in better company over today's distance. Wasn't suited dropping back to 5f last start in a run worth overlooking. In the right race today and should be cherry ripe at the third run back from a spell. SKELLIG ROCK (10) has been racing well without winning. Last appeared just seven days ago when an eye-catching third over 5 ½f at Wangaratta. Drawn to enjoy a cosy run just behind the pace and is sure to prove tough to hold out. ANIA (7) began awkwardly then found the line well when resuming over this distance at Cranbourne recently. This looks a touch easier and her second-up form reads well. Serious contender. MAGNEA (11) has been in fine form this prep following a stable change. Picked up nicely but was narrowly denied at her latest run over 5 ½f at Wodonga. This looks a lovely race for her. BRAZEN FLING (8) can improve with a step up in distance this afternoon.

Second-up. First-up after seven months got back early 4th in a small field at Cranbourne F&M Bm62 on April 10 over 6f, slow going 3 len behind Catwalk Icon with 127lbs at $17. Previously second-up made some head-way from midfield, 3rd of 14 at Seymour Cl1 on August 15 over 5 ½f, on a slow track, 4 len behind Balastier with 121lbs at $17. Plenty of improvement to come with that run under her belt.

Horse Racing Basic Terms

Rabbit

Also known as a pacemaker; this is a horse with no expected chance of winning but is used to prompt a quick pace on the front end of the race to the benefit of a stablemate who is a closer.

Show Wager

Betting on a horse to finish in the first three spots, which pays out the same whether they win or run second or third.

Main Track Only

A horse entered for main track only (MTO) is one hoping the weather forecast or track conditions will move the race off the turf course and onto the main track. They are scratched the morning of the race if the conditions stay dry.
