Verdict

The champ STERN IDOL (1) is looking to go back to back and will need to carry a new record high weight to do so, assigned a whopping 169lbs having simply been too strong again in the Brierly at Warrnambool under 165lbs last time. He's virtually untouchable over the bigger fences and it's hard to see how they match him, weight and all. SING FOR PEACE (5) is the danger. He's a good hurdler switching to the bigger fences off a solid steeple trial. Thought he was a touch disappointing last time at Hamilton when third but he still ran a solid race and 25lbs off Stern Idol is plenty. FABALOT (3) tried hard chasing Golden Garden (who would've given Stern Idol a race) at Casterton last time and he drops sharply in weight. CASTROFRANCARU (4) comes through the same form with some claims while COUNT ZERO (2) needs to find form but will stay.
