Verdict

Good little clash here, mainly between the Maher pair of SHOCKLETZ (7) and GILDED WATER (3). Shockletz was excellent first up in the Golden Mile at Bendigo, charging home for a narrow third after settling last. Bates gets in with 115lbs after his valuable claim and with that run under the belt she might just be a bit fitter and sharper. Gilded Water is the class resuming. He had a big spruik during the Spring as a possible Melbourne Cup horse, ultimately blowing up after bolting in the G3 Bart Cummings, run down in the Geelong Cup as favourite before a spell as well. He looked good winning a 7f trial recently and may just be too strong. PUDDING (4) comes over from Adelaide in good form, making Arran Bay really stretch last time. 1 ?m is fine and he's rock hard fit. WONDER BOY (2) is flying but does meet Shockletz 15lbs worse off from Bendigo, albeit he's won since. BANKERS CHOICE (1) next best back in trip.

Gilded Water silk

Has won previously first-up and resumes here after a break of seven months. Finished off last campaign second of 8 at Geelong in the G3 Geel Cup October 23 over 1 ½m, soft track, 0.5 len behind Torranzino carrying 119lbs at $1.80. Previously first up, third of 15 at Caulfield Bm78 August 30 over 1m, soft track, 0.8 len behind Unlimited with 136lbs at $3.20. Looks forward enough after a recent trial win. Class gelding, if he's right he'll be very hard to run down.
