Tricky little race to open proceedings. JUDAS TREE (3) was heavily backed and won accordingly at Ballarat Synthetic, coming away to score by 1.75 lengths. Switches to turf here but looks progressive and can keep the ball rolling. AVENGERS (5) resumes having run well on debut at Canterbury in February. He's trialled a couple of times and should take catching from a low draw with Williams booked. COMMIT (1) resumed with a smart win at Sale having been in the market on debut last campaign in Listed company. Drawn wide but should be hard to hold out. CIVIC SQUARE (6) is a gelding by Wooded on debut for the in-form Greg Eurell yard who has jumped out well enough to be a factor. AMERICAN EAGLE (4) is a colt by Too Darn Hot on debut for the Douglas yard who has won a jumpout and looks ready to go.
