Verdict

LARZAC was unable to replicate his French form on either start in Grade 1 company last season but looks well worth another chance dropped into a maiden. Nirisque is an interesting recruit for the excellent Henry De Bromhead yard, while Open Secret is another to note, the form of his Wexford second having been given a boost. Lincoln Du Seuil (stablemate of Larzac) is another to consider, especially if the market speaks in his favour on just second start for Willie Mullins.

Larzac (Fr) silk

Pipped by useful Live Conti on his only outing in France for J. Boisnard but didn't get competitive in the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham/Ballymore at Punchestown. Upped in trip and makes plenty of appeal faced with a much easier assignment back in maiden company.

Nirisque (Fr) silk

Promising effort when second in fillies' juvenile at Compiegne (17.9f, soft) on hurdling debut/sole start for N. George & A. Zetterholm. Has joined an excellent yard and is one to be interested in on U.K. debut.

Open Secret silk

Fairly useful Flat winner for Charlie Johnston and promise on both hurdle starts for Gordon Elliott, chasing home an improver who had the run of the race at Wexford (20f) on soft ground last time. May have a fitness-edge over a few and another good account expected.

Horse Racing Basic Terms

Tack

The equipment the horse wears, including saddle and bridle. A jockey typically has their own racing saddle, placed on each horse they ride just before the race.

Workout

A workout is a timed sprint over varying distances prior to a race, meant to get a horse fit enough for competition.

Main Track Only

A horse entered for main track only (MTO) is one hoping the weather forecast or track conditions will move the race off the turf course and onto the main track. They are scratched the morning of the race if the conditions stay dry.
