Verdict

KIM EMPIRE (3) has the most reliable recent profile, with consecutive thirds at this track and the latest only beaten just over a length after being near the top of betting. The apprentice claim helps, he has a solid record with this jockey, and the recent line through Big Max reads well enough to make him the horse to beat. SKY KING (1) comes back from Class 4 and Class 3 races and is better placed returning to 7f, where his broader record and this track-and-distance form give him a strong case despite the top weight. BIG MAX (7) was only sixth last time, but his win two starts ago as a well-supported favourite and his excellent this track-and-distance placing record keep him right in the argument. TOP SHOW (9) was below market expectation as favourite last start, yet his previous second was sound and his record at this venue and distance makes him a genuine each-way player.
