Scratch

A horse is a scratch when injury or other necessity causes it to be withdrawn from the race.

Allowance Race

A race with non-claiming conditions set by the racing secretary. They are meant to be a step down from stakes racing.

A dry dirt track that is typically an ideal racing surface.
