NUGGET SMART (7) has been about the mark all prep and should be peaking at the fourth run back. Stalked the leader then battled on well to hold third last start over 6 ?f at Muswellbrook. Needs 7f now and with a bit of luck from the tricky gate he can take this out. SABATINA (4) stepped up sharply from 4 ¾f to 7f at Forbes last time out and produced a big finish to get up for a close fourth at huge odds. Should get a strong tempo here and will be tough to hold out. THE CONFIDANTE (1) returned to form at Forbes recently, getting up in a nail-biter over today's journey. Both his wins have come at this trip - expect he can hold the good form. TAKE THE CHANCE (5) took a commanding lead into the straight but found a couple better in the run home last start over 6 ½f at Bathurst. Can run another cheeky race. Greybeard BROGANS CREEK (8) showed a glimpse of form at Muswellbrook last time. Placed three of six here so not out of the question.

Scratch

A horse is a scratch when injury or other necessity causes it to be withdrawn from the race.

Bobble/Stumble

A slip or a duck from a horse trying to leave the starting gates, often caused by the surface giving way under the feet. This can range from a mild misstep to a stumble down to their knees.

Fractions

The times recorded during the race; with timing starting just past the gate or when the gates open, then parroted for the quarter, half, three-quarters etc. Used as an indication of ability and speed.
