Verdict

Ron Quinton's handy mare RANTAN (7) improved sharply last start at the second run of the campaign, battling on well for third over this course and distance. Goes up in grade but with Fitzgerald's claim drops a massive 6kgs. Twice a winner here at 5f so everything points to a peak performance. VELLA'S BEST (6) is not the stable star but Gratz Vella has this four-year-old flying with three wins on the bounce, the latest when fresh from a 170-day spell in open company over this trip at Canberra. Ran third to King's Secret last prep on a Saturday in town so he is well and truly up to this. WONDEREACH (1) and SHIRVINGTON (2) clashed over today's journey at Wyong recently and it was the latter who got the verdict by a neck, just getting the better in the dying stages. A 11lbs swing to Wondereach might see the tables turned today. NESRINE (4) has won four on the trot, resuming with a tough victory over 5 ½f here three weeks ago. Two for two with Berry aboard. Must be included.
