SERAPHOX (9) was handed a huge task on debut last start in the Group 2 Todman Stakes and considering he raced wide the effort to be beaten a tick over four lengths had merit. Will be given every chance by McDonald and in this inferior field he looks a great chance to break through. ARTANEOUS (3) has raced twice to date and drops back from stakes grade for the first time today. Started at $8.00 but was easily accounted for first-up in the Black Opal at Canberra. Keen to give him one more chance against this field with the blinkers on. DON VALIENTE (4) crabbed around the bend on debut at Gosford and did well to stick on for third. In good hands so expect him to learn a lot from that first outing. FAWLTY AFFAIRS (5) started $7.00 on a Listed race at Caulfield recently and was there on straightening but tired late. Zac Lloyd is on the crest of a wave and will give this colt every chance. Schwarz's brother LAFITE (7) placed in a recent trial and looks to have talent.

Claiming Race

A race in which horses are entered for a certain price, or claiming tag, which is also their sales price. An owner can claim any horse entered for the tag before the race begins, and owns them as soon as the gates open.

Bolt

A sudden veering to the inside or outside rail, often caused by the horse spooking or shying from something.

Trifecta

A wager picking the first, second and third horses in the exact order. A trifecta box means paying more to ensure the horses can finish in any order in the top three spots.
