Verdict

SHUTTER (3) returned from a six-month spell with a real eye-catcher last start, coming from last on the bend to be beaten just 1.6 lengths in a Class 3 over 6 ?f at Muswellbrook. Only carries 2lbs more today after the claim in a far easier race. Very hard to beat out to this ideal distance. After five minor placings DWAYNE (1) finally cracked his maiden last time out when a comfortable winner over 7 ½f at Port Macquarie. Still has plenty of improvement to come at the third run back from a spell. The wide gate with a 9lbs claimer to steer is the only knock. QUESTIONABLE (8) was back in form last start with a fast-finishing third over this distance at Quirindi. Lightly raced mare who gets all the favours from gate one and should be highly competitive. GHAZNAVI (5) stormed home at the end of 7 ¼f at Muswellbrook recently. Rock hard fit and will be hard to hold out over this longer journey. BIG SHORT (2) strips fitter and is looking for the mile now.

Second-up. First-up after six months came home strongly from last on the turn, 4th of 10 at Muswellbrook Cl3 Bm66 on January 13 over 6f, on a slow track, 1.5 len behind Crimson Wings carrying 123lbs at $11. Previously second-up ran on from midfield and won by 1.0 len at Gunnedah Mdn-Sw March 15 over 6 ½f on a rain affected track defeating Ropewalker with 126lbs at $1.85. Will take a lot from that last run and is the one to beat in an open race.
