Verdict

A case can be made for a fair few of these with AL AALI just about the most persuasive option. This is undoubtedly a tougher assignment than Newmarket 11 days ago but he was value for more than the winning margin on that occasion and he retains plenty of handicapping scope on old form. Noble Horizon will doubtless be popular given the impression he created at Leicester, with Quai de Bethune and Irish raider Diego El Queso also of serious interest.

Back to form with a bang in first-time blinkers (retained) when showing a good turn of speed to win a 6-runner race at Newmarket (1¼m, good to firm) 11 days ago. 5 lb higher but retains handicapping scope on his peak French form so he looks of very serious interest.

Consistent form for William Haggas last year and left yard debut/return well behind when easily making all at Leicester (1¼m, good) under Silvestre de Sousa in June. The handicapper hasn't missed him with a 10 lb rise but no surprise were he to step forward again.

Quai De Bethune (Fr) silk

Signed off for Andrew Balding with victory in 1¼m Golden Gates at Royal Ascot last June. Changed hands for 775,000 guineas (also gelded) and shaped encouragingly with sixth of 16 in handicap at Epsom (1¼m) on return in June. Badly hampered in John Smith's Cup at York since. Considered.
