THE EXTREME CAT (5) brings the strongest overall case after winning at Emerald on soft ground and he has the right supporting profile for this, with five wins from 17 on wet tracks and two wins from ten at the distance. The move from picnic company to a harder meeting is noted, but his recent form and proven Mackay record give him clear appeal. THE DRILLER (8) revived his form with a strong Innisfail win over 1 ¼m and returns quickly, which is assessed as a positive, though Raetihi did have his measure at Cloncurry two runs ago. STELLAR LEGEND (9) resumes after a consistent last campaign, including a soft-track nose second as odds-on favourite and a dominant win at this track before the break, the lack of a 6 ½f win is the main reservation. RAETIHI (4) dug in to win at Cloncurry last start, has been productive this season and gets weight relief with the apprentice claim, so he remains a genuine place hope despite the awkward draw.
