Verdict

A few promising types come together in an interesting race. FIRE 'N' STONE (11) was facing the starter for only the second time when she saluted comfortably over today's trip at Canberra at her latest appearance. Needs a bit of luck from a sticky gate but if it comes she is a major contender. CAPTIVATING TYCOON (2) continued the promising start to his career when beaten narrowly over 6f at Gosford recently. Found the line well on that occasion so an extra ½f with a longer run home looks ideal. DIVA LAS VEGAS (5) is fitter for two runs back from a 20-month lay-off and might be ready to show something. Small field but race has some depth to it. LI'L GRUG (9) next elect.

A bet selecting the first and second horses in a race in the correct order. An exacta box refers to paying a little more to ensure they can finish in either order.

Claiming Race

A race in which horses are entered for a certain price, or claiming tag, which is also their sales price. An owner can claim any horse entered for the tag before the race begins, and owns them as soon as the gates open.

State-Bred

A horse bred in a particular state and thus eligible to race in restricted state-bred races. These can be anything from maiden races to stakes events.
