SAILOR'S RUM (8) was well in commission last time but ran below expectations when fourth and beaten 2.5 lengths over 5 ½f at Rockhampton. Has the pace to settle in the leading division and is likely to feature in the finish. HIGHGROUND (9) showed good early dash and led throughout to score by 1.2 lengths last time out over 5f at Barcaldine. Expected to take some stopping again. JUST SUPER (2) has been in the placings at his last two starts, finishing second last time over 5f at Moranbah. Best figures measure up and is sure to run well. HURTLE (1) gets a stack of weight off with the claim and should be right there when the judge calls a halt.

Claiming Race

A race in which horses are entered for a certain price, or claiming tag, which is also their sales price. An owner can claim any horse entered for the tag before the race begins, and owns them as soon as the gates open.

Rabbit

Also known as a pacemaker; this is a horse with no expected chance of winning but is used to prompt a quick pace on the front end of the race to the benefit of a stablemate who is a closer.

Tack

The equipment the horse wears, including saddle and bridle. A jockey typically has their own racing saddle, placed on each horse they ride just before the race.
