Verdict

GRAFTERBURNERS (1) ran Tempted to 1.8 lengths in the Arrowfield first-up over 6f at Randwick. Went into the Doomben 10,000 off a five-week break last start and struggled after showing pace. Strips fitter and can run a far more competitive race back against the three-year-olds. BEADMAN (3) raced handy and didn't shirk his task in the 10,000 a fortnight ago. Taking on 7f for the first time on a wet track is the query but he has the class to fully test this field. NAVY PILOT (8) returned as a gelding and couldn't have been more impressive first-up over 5 ½f at Bendigo (metro), coming from last at one stage to win pulling away. Only 3.6 lengths away in the Caulfield Gns in the Spring so he is not out of place in this line-up. BRAVE MONARCH (5) was impressive last start in the Queensland Gns over the mile on a heavy surface. Finds a deeper race today but he keeps raising the bar. A wide gate is the only knock on Hawkesbury Gns winner SKYHOOK (4) whose figures stack up.
