MLB DFS Picks

Pitcher Breakdown

FanDuel Research's pitcher projections have five pitchers projected between 29.3 and 35.3 FanDuel points.

Luis Castillo ($9,300) and Tanner Houck ($10,200) stand out in terms of ability and matchup.

Castillo gets the Los Angeles Angels, who rank 22nd in wOBA (.301) with the 13th-highest K rate in the split (22.9%). Castillo's 2024 numbers are down a touch from where he's been in recent years, but he's still sporting a 3.82 SIERA, 24.3% strikeout rate, and 12.0% swinging-strike rate.

Houck is at home versus the Oakland Athletics. Against righties, the A's sit 27th in wOBA (.293) with the 2nd-highest strikeout rate (26.9%). It's about as good as matchups get, and Houck is thriving this season with a 3.03 SIERA.

If you're looking for a low-salary option, Albert Suarez is a decent value play. Suarez will see the Chicago Cubs, an offense that has the sixth-highest K rate (24.4%) versus righties.

Others to Consider

• Nestor Cortes ($9.200 at TB) - Interesting pivot off Castillo. Facing a Tampa Bay Rays offense with the night's lowest implied total (3.61).
• Max Fried ($9,100 at ARI) - Deserves a mention on a smaller slate, but the matchup is a tough one against an offense with the fifth-best wOBA (.336) against southpaws.

Stacks to Target

• Boston Red Sox (5.58 implied total) -- Slate's top implied total, although Luis Medina isn't a pushover (16.3% swinging-strike rate two outings ago).
• Philadelphia Phillies (5.16) -- Lofty implied total for a home date with Landon Knack, who has a solid 4.12 SIERA but is giving up 1.82 jacks per nine innings.
• Houston Astros (4.80) -- My favorite stack tonight for a home game with Roddery Munoz, a righty with a huge homer problem (3.05 dingers per nine and 48.5% fly-ball rate).
• Baltimore Orioles (4.41) -- Matchup with Justin Steele is a tough one, but the O's have the fourth-best wOBA (.340) against lefties and may go overlooked.
