Daily Strikeout Leader: Bailey Ober Has My Attention

Each day on FanDuel Sportsbook, there is no shortage of MLB odds to sift through, and you're likely familiar with a lot of them. That includes strikeout props, which are entertaining because they add importance to each pitch.

FanDuel Sportsbook has cranked that up a few notches with its daily strikeout leader market. Not only do you need your guys to rack up Ks -- you need them to get more punchouts than any of the day's other starting pitchers.

Here are today's odds in that market.

Blake Superior

We have four hurlers listed at +850 or shorter -- Lucas Giolito (+600), Blake Snell (+700), Justin Verlander (+850) and Carlos Rodon (+850). Of those four, I'm most into Snell.

Snell has as much single-game strikeout upside as any pitcher not named Spencer Strider. He's got a 31.0% strikeout rate and 14.7% swinging-strike rate for the year, and he's been even better of late. Over his last 13 starts, Snell has recorded a 36.0% strikeout rate and 16.5% swinging-strike rate.

On a large slate like this one, it'll likely take at least nine punchouts to get you in the conversation to lead the night in Ks, and Snell has hit at least nine strikeouts in six of those last 13 outings.

The matchup is a negative, though, as the Miami Marlins have the sixth-lowest K rate against lefties (20.6%).

Head Ober Heels

I'm not all that enticed by any of the mid-range options outside of Bailey Ober (+1600).

Ober is at the Milwaukee Brewers, so the matchup is there. The Brewers are just 25th in wOBA (.301) against righties with the 11th-highest strikeout rate (23.2%) in the split.

With a 24.6% strikeout rate and 13.5% swinging-strike rate, Ober has the swing-and-miss stuff to come through in this spot. The workload is pretty good, too, as he's thrown at least 90 pitches in three of his past four starts, topping out at 102 pitches in that stretch.

At +1600, Ober is my favorite wager of the night.

Long Shots

To varying degrees, I have some interest in Bryan Woo (+4400), Jon Gray (+4600) and Reese Olson (+4900) as dart-throw lottery tickets.

Taking on the Chicago White Sox, Woo would surely be at a shorter number -- likely much shorter -- if this wasn't his first start off the IL. He owns a 25.9% K rate and 12.4% swinging-strike rate, so if the Seattle Mariners have a long leash with him, Woo is capable of plowing through a White Sox offense that sports the 10th-highest strikeout rate (23.5%) against right-handers.

Gray is starting to dial it in, pitching to a 13.1% swinging-strike rate over his last two starts while permitting only one earned run across 14 innings. The matchup stinks, though, as the Arizona Diamondbacks have the third-lowest strikeout rate (20.6%) versus righties.

Due to a difficult matchup with the Chicago Cubs, Olson is my least favorite of these three, but he has flashed appealing strikeout upside at times this season, punching out at least eight in three of his 11 starts.
