Conn Smythe Trophy Odds: Sergei Bobrovsky Tops the Market Ahead of Game 5

The Stanley Cup Final heads into Game 5 tonight, and anything can happen.

After the Edmonton Oilers kept their Stanley Cup hopes alive with a blowout 8-1 win in Game 4, enough shifted. While it's asking a lot for the Oilers to comeback after being down 3-0 in the series, their one-sided win may have been the difference-maker for the Conn Smythe Trophy.

It remains the Florida Panthers' series to win, making for a two-player race for the playoff MVP award unless the Oilers can get another win tonight.

Let's take a look at the Conn Smythe Trophy odds via the NHL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Sergei Bobrovsky-105
Aleksander Barkov+105
Connor McDavid+700
Evan Bouchard+15000
Leon Draisaitl+16000

Sergei Bobrovsky (-105)

Sergei Bobrovsky remains the favorite for the Conn Smythe Trophy, but it's more of a toss-up after a tough performance in Game 4.

Bobrovsky had been impenetrable through the first three games of the Stanley Cup Final. He had saved 82 of 86 shots faced -- posting a .954 save percentage (SV%) in the first three games. Then, of course, Game 4 happened, and he allowed 5 goals 16 shots before being pulled from the game.

Overall, Bobrovsky has a 2.27 goals against average (GAA) and .909 SV% in these playoffs -- still strong numbers.

One game certainly doesn't define a playoff run, especially for Bobrovsky as his play has been a major reason that Florida is in the spot that they are. But, with his odds down to -105, there's a reason it's so close. A big Game 5 performance and victory can lock in the trophy.

If the Panthers fall again, however, then there's a good shot that Bobrovsky is no longer the favorite to take home the honor.

Aleksander Barkov (+105)

The other play comfortably in the conversation to take home the Conn Smythe Trophy is Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov.

Barkov has been a key reason that the top players Florida has faced have struggled each and every round.

Head coach Paul Maurice has leaned on Barkov to shut down the stars, and it's a major reason that the Panthers won the first three games of this series. Leon Draisaitl has yet to score a goal while Connor McDavid has been slowed down enough. Barkov also is the playoff leader in takeaways (29).

On the offensive end, the 28-year-old remains the Panthers' leader in points throughout the playoffs. He's averaged a point per game, recording 21 points on 7 goals and 14 assists. Barkov has four points in the Stanley Cup Final.

Another tough outing for Bobrovsky and the continuation of this series tonight might be all Barkov needs to lock up the Conn Smythe Trophy -- assuming the Panthers still manage to win the series at some point.

The captain will be the first to hold the Stanley Cup if the Panthers can win. It'd be fitting if he earned the award for playoff MVP, as well. He's worth considering as the hockey season comes to a close.

Connor McDavid (+700)

If the Edmonton Oilers can pull off the nearly impossible, Connor McDavid will likely be the one taking home the Conn Smythe Trophy.

It's a tall task as they're down 3-1 with two more wins needed to even have a shot. But, the best player in the world is the ideal guy to be the one pushing Edmonton forward.

Statistically, no one has been better than McDavid. He has led the charge with 38 points -- 8 more than the second-best in the form of his teammate, Draisaitl. While he's only scored 6 goals, he managed to break the record for the most assists in a single playoff run with 32, passing Wayne Gretzky.

In the Stanley Cup Final, he's put together seven points with four of them coming in the Game 4 win.

The only reason you're betting on McDavid to take the Conn Smythe Trophy is if you believe in the Oilers to win this series. Otherwise, it's going to someone on the Panthers.
