AFC West Odds

Las Vegas Raiders | +900 |
Denver Broncos | +2000 |
Kansas City Chiefs 2024 Outlook
Projected Win Total: 11.5 (-122 on the over)
Odds to Make the Playoffs: -470
Odds to Win the AFC West: -230
Odds to Win the AFC: +370
Odds to Win the Super Bowl: +600 (2nd-best)
The Kansas City Chiefs are fresh off winning back-to-back Super Bowls. Additionally, they have now earned the AFC West title in eight consecutive seasons, which is an all-time record for this grouping.
Kansas City has the benefit of returning all three of its most prevalent players: quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and defensive tackle Chris Jones. From there, head coach Andy Reid and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo are still pulling the strings for Chiefs Kingdom.
Headed into the 2024 campaign, the champs will experience some roster turnover at a few key positions. Star cornerback L'Jarius Sneed was recently traded to the Tennessee Titans. Additionally, wideout Rashee Rice is almost certainly facing a league-issued suspension.
For prevalent newcomers, Marquise Brown and rookie Xavier Worthy will join Kansas City's offensive skill group. Notably, Worthy broke the NFL Combine record by running the 40-yard dash in 4.21 seconds. Of course, we have already seen what Mahomes -- the MVP favorite, with +500 NFL MVP odds -- can do when paired with top-level speed.
When surveying all eight NFL divisional markets at FanDuel Sportsbook, the Chiefs are listed as the biggest divisional favorite (-230 odds). They also own the second-shortest Super Bowl odds at +600, trailing just the San Francisco 49ers (+550).
Los Angeles Chargers 2024 Outlook
Projected Win Total: 8.5 (-144 on the over)
Odds to Make the Playoffs: -104
Odds to Win the AFC West: +350
Odds to Win the AFC: +2100
Odds to Win the Super Bowl: +5000 (T18th-best)
In a real attempt to "Bolt up," the Los Angeles Chargers are entering a new chapter. They'll go forward with Jim Harbaugh as head coach on the heels of Harbaugh's first CFP national championship. Also, the Chargers just moved into a brand-new facility, shifting their headquarters from Orange County to L.A. County.
Amidst many changes, can the Bolts show tangible on-field improvement? They went 5-12 last season, finishing dead last in the AFC West. To make matters worse, Los Angeles lost eight of their final nine games in 2023. Simply, improvement should not be hard to find.
For a bit of continuity, signal-caller Justin Herbert is back in powder blue. Given his many physical gifts, Herbert and Harbaugh -- a coach with a proven track record of elevating quarterbacks -- will make for an intriguing pairing. Herbert is listed with +1600 to win the MVP award, per FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL MVP odds, tied for the eighth-shortest odds.
To bolster Herbert's protection, the Chargers recently drafted All-American left tackle Joe Alt from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Alt boasts an imposing frame of 6-foot-9, 320 pounds. That is the sort of size that all pro scouts look for in the bookend position.
FanDuel Sportsbook is expecting the Bolts to turn things around in the coming year. The 2024 NFL win totals market shows the Chargers with a set number of 8.5 (-144 over/+118 under). Incidentally, the Chargers are left with +350 odds to win the AFC West.
Las Vegas Raiders 2024 Outlook
Projected Win Total: 6.5 (-144 on the over)
Odds to Make the Playoffs: +320
Odds to Win the AFC West: +900
Odds to Win the AFC: +4500
Odds to Win the Super Bowl: +8000 (T23rd-best)
As the lone AFC West franchise with a defensive minded head coach, the Las Vegas Raiders are zigging while fellow contemporaries are zagging. Given the Raiders' history, it is tough to knock them for trying something different.
This time around, the Raiders have elected to roll with the coach who produced invigorated play in an interim capacity in 2023. Make no mistake though, Antonio Pierce -- a former Super Bowl-winning linebacker -- is built different; he is capable of getting the most out of this Vegas team in many ways.
The looming question for Raider Nation remains centered around the quarterback spot. The job will almost certainly come down to wily veteran Gardner Minshew or second-year passer Aidan O'Connell. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Minshew is currently labeled with -225 odds to be the Raiders' Week 1 starting quarterback. O'Connell is listed at +172 odds.
In 2023, Las Vegas was anchored behind a solid defense (allowing 19.5 PPG). As one of the most productive players in the NFL, defensive end Maxx Crosby leads the unit statistically and emotionally. He logged 23 TFL with 14.5 sacks last season. To aid the Vegas D, bruising defensive tackle Christian Wilkins was brought over from the Miami Dolphins.
The offense in Sin City has potential, especially when you consider dynamic players like Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and rookie Brock Bowers. Still, much of that will be dependent on offensive coordinator Luke Getsy's scheme and the play Vegas gets under center. Keep in mind: Josh Jacobs is now a member of the Green Bay Packers.
The Raiders are actually the most recent team to defeat the reigning-champion Chiefs, but Las Vegas enters 2024 with lofty nine-to-one odds to win the AFC West.
Denver Broncos 2024 Outlook
Projected Win Total: 5.5 (-150 on the over)
Odds to Make the Playoffs: +570
Odds to Win the AFC West: +2000
Odds to Win the AFC: +7000
Odds to Win the Super Bowl:+15000 (T29th-best)
Out in the Mile High, the Denver Broncos are another franchise on the horizon of a new era. For Sean Payton's second campaign in Colorado, he'll have some interesting new quarterbacking options.
Notably, Russell Wilson was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to the 2024 NFL Draft. From there, the Broncos brought in Zach Wilson before drafting Bo Nix with the 12th overall pick. That gives Denver two first-rounders in their signal-caller room.
Still, the Broncos have myriad issues to address. In 2023, they ranked 27th in points allowed (24.3 PPG). It doesn't help that Denver recently waived All-Pro safety Justin Simmons in an effort to save cap space. As of mid May, Simmons remains a free agent.
Transparently, I am not expecting the Broncos to be incredibly competitive in the coming campaign. The odds at FanDuel Sportsbook concur with this sentiment, as Denver shows 20-to-1 odds to win the AFC West. Pertaining to 2024 win totals, they have one of the lowest numbers on the board at 5.5 (-150 over/+120 under).
As it is now, the direction of Broncos Country will largely be determined by the ensuing relationship between Payton and Nix -- stay tuned.
