4 NHL Player Prop Bets to Target on Tuesday 10/24/23

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Please note that betting lines and numberFire's projections may change throughout the day after this article is published. Also, the weather may be an issue in some locations.

Johnny Gaudreau To Score a Goal (+185)

All 32 NHL teams are in action today giving us 16 games to pick from. Let's jump into some props from across the slate!

The Columbus Blue Jackets are at home with a 3.47 implied goal total against the Anaheim Ducks, putting them in a spot to turn up the offense.

To this point in the season, the Blue Jackets are scoring 2.52 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the 11th-best rate in the league. A solid scoring rate makes them a threat to pour in the goals any night, which is exactly what we want to see.

The Ducks are only allowing 1.42 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is actually the fifth-best in the league. However, if we look at their expected goals allowed (xGA) in the same situations, that is up at 2.61.

They are overperforming by a full goal, which signals they should be due for some regression on defense.

We'll turn to John Gaudreau, who has 19 shots on goal in his first five games but zero goals. That's right -- the Blue Jackets' highest-paid player has yet to find the back of the net this season.

It's not for a lack of trying; he's averaging over 3.5 shots on goal per game, while skating on the first forward line and the first power-play unit. I love the shot volume and the role he plays, add in an easier matchup tonight, and it's his time to light the lamp for the first time this season.

Kyle Connor To Record 4+ Shots on Goal (-114)

In what could be one of the best matchups on the slate, we'll turn to Kyle Connor to record at least four shots on goal.

This is a great spot for Connor since he is up against the St. Louis Blues, who are dead last in the league with a 71.80 Corsi Against (Total Shot Attempts Allowed) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. Opposing teams are able to freely fire the puck against the Blues, which opens up plenty of value in the prop market.

Connor is on the first forward line and the first power-play unit, which has allowed him to rack up 23 shots on goal through the first five games. That's good for 4.6 shots on goal per game -- a strong level of consistency we can rely on.

He's a primary shooter for the Jets and has a great matchup; no need to overthink it.

Dylan Larkin To Record 4+ Shots on Goal (+142)

The Detroit Red Wings are off to a red-hot start and have some props worth considering tonight.

One of the players off to a hot start is their captain, Dylan Larkin. A total of 27 shots on goal, 8 assists, and 3 goals in the first six games puts him among the best producers in the league to this point. He's on the top forward line and the top power-play unit, which consistently puts him in a spot to produce.

Tonight, he'll be up against the Seattle Kraken, who come in with a 61.52 Corsi Against per 60 minutes, which is the 11th worst to start the season. We also see the Kraken averaging over 10 minutes of penalty minutes per game, and with Larkin on the top power-play unit, the extra chances should be there for him to fire the puck tonight.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins To Record 3+ Shots on Goal (+114)

With a few lineup changes for the Edmonton Oilers, there's a ton of value available.

The big news for the Oilers is that Connor McDavid is out for a few weeks. McDavid is the best player in the world, and this is a massive hit to their lineup. With that, the forward lines have to be changed for the Oilers, and it puts Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in a great spot.

RNH is now the center on the second forward line due to Leon Draisaitl being moved up the first forward line to take McDavid's spot. RNH will be skating alongside Warren Foegele and Mattias Janmark. To put things plainly, RNH is the best player on the line by a mile.

Last season, RNH had 104 total points, which was good for the ninth-most in the NHL. Foegele and Janmark combined for 53 points last year. When that line is on the ice, RNH should be the one with the puck on his stick taking the shots; it's as simple as that.
