WNBA Prop Bets
Cameron Brink Under 13.5 Pts + Reb (+102)
The Los Angeles Sparks (4-10) have a tough battle ahead as they are set to visit the Connecticut Sun (12-1) this evening.
Connecticut's league-best record is thanks to a league-best defensive rating and net rating. They are holding opponents to just 70.8 points per game (fewest) and could prove even more limiting against a Sparks team that comes in with the second-worst offensive rating.
The Sparks are averaging 77.6 points per game (third-fewest) and should score below that number against the slowest-paced team in the league.
This leads me to Cameron Brink under 13.5 combined points and rebounds (PR).
Brink has been pretty volatile in her rookie season. She's been in L.A.'s starting lineup since the start of the season, though the market may have had an overreaction to a big game this past Sunday.
While Brink is averaging 13.8 PR, she has recorded under 13.5 PR in 9 out of 14 games. In games against the top 8 defenses, she's averaging only 11.9 PR and net below 13.5 PR in seven out of eight games. In three games against the top 3 defenses, she managed a mere 7.7 PR per game.
Tonight's meeting with the Sun will be her toughest challenge yet, and it doesn't help that Connecticut is skilled at drawing contact.
Opposing forwards are netting 11.5 total fouls per game (most) when going up against the Sun. Brink, meanwhile, has not quite learned the defensive ropes of the W, leading the league with 4.2 fouls per game.
Jonquel Jones Over 24.5 Pts + Reb (-120)
The New York Liberty (12-2) are home to the best offense in the WNBA and should have a field day in tonight's meeting with the Phoenix Mercury (7-7).
Phoenix comes in with the fourth-worst defensive rating (tied) and play at the third-fastest pace, making New York's Jonquel Jones a worthy target in the props market.
The former MVP is averaging 25.5 PR per game and has exceeded 24.5 PR in 8 out of 14 games, missing by the hook on two occasions.
She has played eight games against teams that fare in the bottom half of defensive rating. In this split, she is averaging a ridiculous 30.8 PR and cleared 24.5 PR in all but one game, missing by the hook in that one.
Phoenix's defensive shortcomings indicate that Jones is primed to clear this prop. Their fast-paced nature could help, too, as Jones is netting 31.0 PR in three games against the three fastest teams in the league.
The Mercury cede the most rebounds and three-point attempts per game. We know Jones can leverage her size to score inside, but her ability to drain threes makes her an all-around scoring threat. She's shooting threes at a 42.6% clip (seventh-best in the WNBA) and is netting 33.2% of her points from behind the arc. Jones is in a great spot to continue her MVP-esque play in this one.
Brittney Griner Over 7.5 Rebounds (-130)
The Mercury have gone 3-1 since Brittney Griner returned from injury, and her help on the boards has played a big role in their success.
Griner's first game back was met with a limited 21-minute game, but she has since exceeded 30 minutes and recorded at least nine rebounds in three straight games.
Beyond Griner, the Mercury are a pretty small team, so they will need her help in the interior tonight, especially with Jones and Breanna Stewart on the other side.
Last season, Griner recorded over 7.5 rebounds in 8 out of 14 games wherein she played at least 30 minutes. It's important to keep in mind that Griner was playing alongside two other forwards in the starting lineup, including former Mercury player Brianna Turner, who led the team in rebounds.
This go-around, Griner is the lone non-guard in Phoenix's lineup, so she'll be receiving the lion's share of rebound chances. Given how she fits into this team, I'd be surprised if Griner's rebound prop is set this low moving forward. I'm keen on taking advantage of that with an important game against New York inbound.
