Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy hockey on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

NHL Prop Bets

Matt Duchene To Score a Goal (+220)/
Matt Duchene Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (+108)

The Dallas Stars have a big 3.96 implied goal total tonight against the Arizona Coyotes, which should point to plenty of scoring for the Stars.

The Stars are in the middle of a very close Central Division race and need to keep pace with the other teams, making this an important game.

Since the start of March, the Stars have been pouring in the goals with 2.93 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the eighth-best in the league. The Stars also have the ninth-best (23.8%) power play this season, which always puts them in a spot to score.

We'll turn to Matt Duchene, who sees time on the second forward line and the second power-play unit right now. Over his last 10 games, he has a strong 30 shots on goal but just a single goal to show for it. That goal came 10 games ago, giving him no goals and 29 shots on goal over his last nine games.

The Coyotes' defense has allowed 62.16 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations since the start of March, which is the eighth-worst in the league. This should allow Duchene and the Stars to pile up the chances and look for goals tonight.

Auston Matthews To Record 1+ Powerplay Points (+170)

Next up, the Toronto Maple Leafs have a 3.47 implied goal total versus the Washington Capitals.

The Maple Leafs are coming off a few losses and need to right the ship as we get to the end of the season. Auston Matthews is the best player on the Leafs and has been a bit average as of late with just seven total points in his last 10 games.

Since the start of March, the Capitals have allowed the ninth-most Goals per 60 minutes while on the penalty kill

On the season, Matthews has a total of 84 points in 66 games, with 25 of those points coming on the power-play. That is where we will look tonight since the Maple Leafs have the fifth-best (26.2%) power play in the league.

The Capitals' penalty kill (79.4%) is 17th in the league and doesn't pose too much of a threat overall. At +170 odds, Matthews for a single power-play point -- a goal or an assist -- is worth a look in this matchup.
