3 NHL Player Prop Bets to Target on Wednesday 12/27/23
Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.
Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.
Please note that betting lines and numberFire's projections may change throughout the day after this article is published. Also, the weather may be an issue in some locations.
Jack Hughes
To Record 2+ Points (+104)
The New Jersey Devils have a strong 3.88 implied goal total tonight and could exceed that in a hurry versus the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Since the start of December, the Devils are taking 60.20 Total Shot Attempts and are scoring 2.86 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which are each in the top 13 of the league.
Over that same time, the Blue Jackets are allowing 62.90 Total Shot Attempts and 2.77 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which are both in the bottom 12.
It's a straightforward matchup for the Devils to push their offense forward, and that means we are looking to Jack Hughes for a big game tonight.
He comes in with 14 goals, 25 assists, and 120 shots on goal through 27 games this season, putting him among the best in the league. His role on the top forward line and the top power-play always put him in a position to pick up points, especially with the Devils' power-play converting at the third-best rate (30.0%) this season.
This game has a 6.5 over/under with -148 on the over, giving us a clear expectation we will see plenty of scoring tonight. If that's the case, Hughes will certainly be involved.
Jack Eichel
Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (-132)
In need of a bounceback game, the Vegas Golden Knights should look to their best player, Jack Eichel.
A three-game losing streak is actually rare for the Golden Knights and they have a very soft matchup against the Anaheim Ducks to get back to their winning ways.
In December, the Golden Knights have scored 3.2 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the fourth-best in the league. They like to push the pace on offense, and we should see that on display tonight, with Eichel front and center.
Eichel comes in averaging 4.2 shots on goal per game due to his strong role on the first forward line and the top power-play unit. He has a total of 147 shots on goal, while the second player on the Golden Knights is sitting at 118 shots on goal.
He's their primary shot taker, which has led to him being over this 3.5 mark in seven of his last 10 games. Eichel has racked up at least five shots on goal in four of these last 10 games, so I'll throw a sprinkle on Eichel To Record 5+ Shots on Goal (+162), too.
Adrian Kempe
Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (+114)
The Los Angeles Kings are elite from top to bottom and are a team worth trusting on a nightly basis.
With a big 4.10 implied goal total, it won't be a surprise to see the Kings with a comfortable lead over the San Jose Sharks tonight. Over the last two weeks, the Sharks are allowing 64.51 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the sixth-worst in the league.
On the flip side, the Kings are generating a whopping 73.94 Total Shot Attempts in the same situations, which is second-best over the last two weeks.
This is about as lopsided of a matchup as you will find tonight and leads me to Adrian Kempe. While Kempe is in the midst of a goal-scoring drought, he's still firing the puck at a high rate.
He comes in averaging 3.2 shots on goal per game this season and leads the Kings with 22.05 Shot Attempts per 60 minutes, two things we love to see given how favorable of a matchup he has.
The goals might be missing for Kempe, but the shots will always be there for him with time on the first forward line and the first power-play unit.
