Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy hockey on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Please note that betting lines and numberFire's projections may change throughout the day after this article is published.

Tage Thompson

To Score a Goal (+150)

The Buffalo Sabres come in with a solid 3.35 implied goal total and should be able to hit that versus the lowly Chicago Blackhawks tonight.

The Blackhawks find themselves on the second night of a back-to-back, and with their struggles on defense, this is looking like a lopsided matchup.

This season, the Blackhawks are in the bottom three in Goals Allowed (3.06) and Total Shot Attempts Allowed (66.11), both per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.

They are a constant target for opposing offenses, and that leads me to Tage Thompson, who is the center on the first forward line and the first power-play for the Sabres.

He comes in with 5 goals, 3 assists, and 33 shots on goal over his last 10 games but no goals in four of his last five games. It's a solid matchup for the Sabres, who have scored three goals or more in six of their last 10 games, which should continue tonight with Thompson leading the way.

Editor's note: This game has been postponed due to weather.

Nico Hischier

Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-128)

With Jack Hughes out of the lineup for the New Jersey Devils, some line changes offer new opportunities.

A team missing their top-line center is a massive loss, but it also opens up a chance for players to step up and fill the missing production. That is what we have with Nico Hischier, who has moved to the first forward line with Hughes out.

Tonight's matchup against the Montreal Canadiens should allow Hischier to pile up the shots and help drive the offense. Over the last two weeks, the Canadiens' defense has allowed 73.96 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the worst in the NHL.

While Hischier averages two shots on goal per game, this is a new role for him, and it should allow him to reach for a higher level of consistency -- especially with this soft matchup.

Matthew Tkachuk

Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (-122)

The Florida Panthers have a slate-high 3.76 implied goal total against the Detroit Red Wings, a matchup that should feature plenty of scoring.

A 6.5 total with -120 juice on the over is a good indication the offenses should be front and center tonight. This won't be anything new for these two teams, and that leads me to a player prop for Matthew Tkachuk.

Over his last 10 games, Tkachuk has a staggering 42 shots on goal, 29 of which have come over his last five games. He is truly in a shot-first mentality, and it creates a high level of consistency for props.

When it comes to the Red Wings' defense, they have allowed 70.96 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-worst in the league over the last two weeks.

With a high pace expected in this matchup, Tkachuk has a perfect opportunity to continue his high-volume shoot streak.
