NHL Prop Bets

Jake Guentzel To Score a Goal (+155)

I'm always up for a good narrative and that's exactly what we have tonight with the Carolina Hurricanes visiting the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Jake Guentzel spent his first seven and a half seasons with the Penguins, until they traded him to Carolina at the beginning of March. This will be his first game back in Pittsburgh, so let's turn to a goal prop for him against his former team.

While that narrative is always a bit of fun, this is legitimately a strong matchup for Guentzel and we would be looking here for a goal regardless of the storyline.

Over the last two weeks, the Penguins have allowed 3.45 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the third-worst in the league. During that same time, the Hurricanes are scoring the 14th-most goals (2.78) and are generating the second-most (69.46) Total Shot Attempts, both per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.

Guentzel skates on the first forward line and the first power-play unit, which has enabled him to rack up 2 goals and 25 shots on goal with his new team in the last eight games. He has no goals over his last three games while posting a strong 10 shots on goal.

Guentzel has always been a primary shooter in the NHL and can continue that tonight against his former team.

Jason Robertson Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-130)

The Dallas Stars are massive -450 road favorites versus the San Jose Sharks, in what should be a very lopsided matchup.

Since the start of March, the Sharks have allowed 60.39 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is good for the ninth-worst in the league. They've been at the bottom of the league for the entire season and we'll continue to target them until the very last day of games.

Over that same time frame, the Stars' offense has generated the sixth-most (63.28) Total Shot Attempts in the same situations, putting them among the elite offenses in the league.

This leads me to Jason Robertson, who is on the first forward line and the first power-play unit for the Stars, making him a primary offensive option. He comes in with 26 shots on goal over his last 10 games and is coming off a game where he recorded just a single shot, making this a solid bounce-back spot against a weak defense.

Dylan Larkin Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-138)

With both the Detroit Red Wings and the Washington Capitals fighting for the same Wild Card spot, this should be a high-intensity game.

These two teams are separated by just a single point in the standings for the final Eastern Conference Wild Card spot, bringing us a playoff-type atmosphere tonight.

While I don't anticipate a ton of scoring tonight, we can keep things simple with a shot prop for the Red Wings' best player, Dylan Larkin.

Larkin comes in averaging just over three shots on goal per game this season while seeing time on the first forward line and the first power-play unit. The Capitals' defense has struggled a bit since the beginning of March, having allowed the fifth-most (63.56) Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.

I expect the Red Wings to keep things simple in this game and that means taking any and all shots to get pucks to the net. Larkin should be a key play-driver for them given his offensive role, putting him in a spot to rack up shots tonight.
