Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy hockey on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

NHL Prop Bets

Cole Caufield To Score a Goal (+120)

The Montreal Canadiens host the Arizona Coyotes in what could be a sloppy, back-and-forth game.

By no means are either of these teams "good," but there's still plenty of value in the prop market that we can target tonight.

Over the last two weeks, the Coyotes have allowed 3.70 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the worst in the NHL. It's no surprise to see that they're on a 12-game losing streak. The Canadiens have allowed the 13th-most (2.86) Goals over that same time, so as I said, this could be a sloppy game.

This leads me to Cole Caufield, who is an extremely high-volume shooter for the Canadiens and leads them with 221 shots on goal this season. That's not only 75 higher than the next player on the Canadiens, but it's also the eighth-highest in the entire NHL.

Over his last 10 games, he has a whopping 46 shots on goal resulting in just two goals, both of which came in the same game. He has 19 shots on goal over his last four games but hasn't been able to find the back of the net, which is a bit surprising.

This type of volume is amazing to see, and with a very weak defense on the other side, Caufield should finally be able to find the back of the net.

Jack Hughes Over 4.5 Shots on Goal (-106)

Great players coming off of bad games continue to be one of my favorite spots to target.

That is what we have with Jack Hughes, who recorded just a single shot on goal in his most recent game. Hughes is averaging a staggering 4.6 shots on goal per game this season, so seeing a single shot is a bit of an outlier.

He's had at least four shots on goal in nine of the last 10 games, hitting six shots on goal six times.

That is what we should see tonight versus the San Jose Sharks, who have allowed 75.4 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-worst in the league over the last two weeks.

With a role on the second forward line and the first power-play unit, the most recent outing was a mere blip on the radar for Hughes, who offers a high level of consistency on a nightly basis.

Martin Necas Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-138)

With a great matchup, the Carolina Hurricanes should bounce back against the Minnesota Wild tonight.

While real hurricanes are known for wind and water, the hockey Hurricanes are known for shots -- and a lot of them.

If we look at the entire season sample size (70.98) or just the last two weeks (73.43), the Hurricanes are number one in both when it comes to Total Shot Attempts created per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.

This has been their calling card for several years, and they are pedal to the floor on offense at all times. This is fantastic to see for player shot props, which brings me to Martin Necas, who is on the second forward line and the second power-play unit.

When it comes to the Wild's defense, they've allowed the fifth-most (67.18) Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, making this an ideal spot for the Canes.

Over his last 10 games, he has hit at least three shots on goal seven times. If we convert odds to probability, the -138 odds is a 58% implied probability. Given the differential between his level of consistency and the implied probability, Necas is a clear target in this matchup.
