3 NHL Player Prop Bets to Target on Thursday 10/19/23
Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.
Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Jason Robertson To Score a Goal (+125)
The Dallas Stars have a sizable 3.92 implied goal total against the Anaheim Ducks and are primed for a big offensive game.
Jason Robertson is the Stars' best player, and while he's off to a slow start through the first two games, I couldn't be less worried. Robertson has 46 and 41 goals in the last two seasons, putting him among the best in the league. He's a clear option for a goal tonight in what is a super favorable matchup.
The Ducks are allowing an 80.33 Corsi Against (Total Shot Attempts Allowed) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the worst in the league. Despite allowing a massive volume of shot attempts, the Ducks have only allowed 1.42 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the sixth-best in the league.
That just doesn't add up. A team allowing tons of shot attempts but so few goals? If we glance at their expected goals allowed (xGA), they are up at 3.04, which would be the sixth-worst in the league. That's more like it and really where they should be this season.
The Stars' offense comes in with a 64.02 Corsi For (Total Shot Attempts Created), which is the 10th-best in the league. They should be getting plenty of shots on net, meaning plenty of chances for Robertson to grab his first goal of the season.
Matthew Tkachuk To Score a Goal (+125)
Matthew Tkachuk has 16 shots on goal this season but no goals.
Tkachuk is a stud and a player you can look to on a nightly basis for NHL player props. He has at least 40 goals and 100 points in each of the last two seasons, providing offense every time he touches the ice.
So, seeing him with a high volume of shots but no goals is rather interesting -- and a spot I like to look for a bit of positive regression. He skates on the second forward line and the first power-play for the Florida Panthers, who are up against the Toronto Maple Leafs in a game that features a 6.5-goal over/under.
The Maple Leafs are struggling on defense to start the season and have allowed 4.13 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-worst in the league.
We love to see those types of numbers when searching for a goal-scorer, and that's exactly what Tkachuk brings to the table.
Brad Marchand To Record 3+ Shots on Goal (-132)
The newest captain of the Boston Bruins, Brad Marchand, has a juicy matchup for some offense tonight.
The Bruins are rocking a 3.93 implied goal total against the San Jose Sharks, who are going to be one of the worst teams in the league this season.
In the first two games, Marchand had just three shots on goal, but that doesn't tell the whole story. In the first game, he had three shot attempts but only one found its way on goal. In game two, he had five shot attempts, and only two found their way on goal.
Not every shot is going to end up on goal, but taking a high volume of shot attempts is something I love to see.
When it comes to the Sharks' defense, there isn't much of it to start the year. They have a 79.35 Corsi Against per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-worst in the league. The Sharks are a team to target for shot props due to the amount of shot attempts they allow.
With Marchand's role on the second forward line and the first power-play unit, he will have the chances to get those attempts actually on net tonight.
