Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy hockey on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

NHL Prop Bets

Carter Verhaeghe To Score a Goal (+170)/
Carter Verhaeghe Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (+130)

The Florida Panthers have plenty of offensive potential and an interesting matchup against the New York Rangers.

The Rangers are one of the hottest teams in the league with wins in 10 of their last 12 games, but if we dig a little deeper, there's a lot to break down.

Over the last two weeks, the Rangers have allowed 78.84 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the worst in the league. Surprisingly, they have only allowed 1.76 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the fifth lowest in the league.

However, if we look at their Expected Goals Allowed, that's up at 3.9 Goals, which would be the worst in the league. Surprise, surprise. Giving up a ton of shot attempts is bad and just because they haven't let up goals right now, it's still not a good thing for their defense.

They are due for some negative regression on defense and that could certainly get going tonight versus the Panthers.

Carter Verhaeghe is on the first forward line and the first power-play unit, which has allowed him to rack up 34 shots on goal over his last 10 games, putting him tied for the team-high in that time.

However, he is coming off a game where he had no shots on goal and hasn't scored over his last six games. Verhaeghe continues to be a high-volume shooter and with the Rangers' defense due for some negative regression, he's worth considering tonight.

Cale Makar To Record 1+ Power-Play Points (+140)

The Colorado Avalanche have a massive 4.30 implied goal against the Chicago Blackhawks, which should see them pour in the goals.

When a team has this high of an implied goal total, we should look to derive value from some secondary markets. This leads me to Cale Makar, who is one of the best offensive defensemen in the league.

He skates on the Avs' first power-play unit, which hits at 24.0% this season, putting them as the seventh best in the league. On the other side, the Blackhawks' penalty kill is the 10th worst (77.5%) in the NHL.

Makar has a total of 64 points this season, 28 of which have come on the power-play. That's good for 43% of his points coming from the power play, making this a via market to target tonight.
