John Tavares To Score a Goal (+200)
The Toronto Maple Leafs have plenty of goal-scoring potential in their lineup and props worth considering.
I'm always a fan of a good narrative, so when we can mix in some strong metrics and betting odds we have a great combination to target.
That leads us to John Tavares who is going up against his former team, the New York Islanders. Tavares left the Islanders in 2018 in a bit of an ugly situation, and they've had bad blood since.
Going up against his former team is always a great revenge narrative but we also see Tavares sitting at 998 career points -- just a pair of points away from 1,000 for his career, a remarkable achievement in the NHL.
When we look to Tavares, he comes in with just 7 goals this season, but if we glance at his Expected Goals Scored, he's up at 10.9. He has no goals over his last eight games but has a very solid 28 shots on goal in that time.
He continues to fire the puck at a very strong rate but hasn't been able to find the back of the net.
For the Islanders' defense, they started to slip over the last two weeks. This season, they are allowing 2.26 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the ninth-best in the league. However, over the last two weeks, that rate has increased to 3.23, which is the fifth-worst in the league.
Going up against a struggling defense and Tavares being due for some positive goal-scoring regression is a great mix tonight.
Wyatt Jonhston Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (+102)
The Dallas Stars are in need of a bounceback game against the Detroit Red Wings.
After a 6-1 loss in their most recent game, the Stars will look to rebound against a very average Red Wings team. Over the last two weeks, the Red Wings are allowing 69.33 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-worst in the league.
This routinely puts opposing offenses in a good spot to pile up the shots, so we'll turn to Wyatt Johnston. The second-year player has 61 shots on goal this season, which is good for the second-most on the Stars.
Johnston is the primary shooter on the third forward line, along with seeing time on the second power-play unit. This has allowed him to go over this 2.5 mark in six of his last 10 games, a level he should be able to replicate tonight.
Ilya Sorokin Over 30.5 Saves (-118)
As noted above, the Islanders' defense has slipped in recent weeks, and it opens up some value in the prop market.
The Islanders' goalie, Ilya Sorokin, is constantly called upon to make save after save on a nightly basis. Over the last two weeks, the Islanders are allowing 76.06 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the worst in the league.
That equates to 35.51 actual Shots on Goal per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-worst in the league in the last two weeks.
This is shown clearly by Sorokin's game log where he has racked up 32 saves or more in seven of his last 10 games. In four of those games, he ended with 35 saves or more, including two games over 40 saves.
Lots of shot attempts allowed means lots of saves for Sorokin tonight.
