College Basketball Prop Bets

Illinois vs. UConn, 6:09 PM Eastern

Cam Spencer 3+ Three-Pointers Made (+110)

The UConn Huskies are one win away from back-to-back Final Four appearances. They are favored by 8.5 points in this game, so they should have a good chance of getting there.

This should provide a good opportunity for some of their best players, including Cam Spencer. He was second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.4 points per game.

His calling card this season was shooting from deep. Spencer led the Huskies in three points made and was the best from behind the arc among their starters. He should find success from three in this game.

UConn's opponents' , the Illinois Fighting Illini , were not adequate at defending the three. They allowed opponents to shoot at a 34.5% clip on three-pointers, which was tied for 226th in the country.

Spencer has averaged 5.76 three-point attempts this season. With this obviously being the most important game of the season, he could play more than normal -- especially with the potential rest if UConn advances. We're getting a nice price on this bet, so I'll take +110 on Spencer.

Terrance Shannon Over 21.5 Points (-122)

On the other side, Terrance Shannon has a point total that might be set a bit too low.

Shannon averaged 23.5 points per game this season. He hasn't scored fewer than 25 points in any of his last seven games.

One skill that Shannon possesses better than nearly every other player in the country is his ability to get to the free throw line. He averages 8.7 free throw attempts per game and converts on them at an 80.4% rate.

UConn's defense is elite and rates well in most metrics, but an area where they aren't the greatest is allowing teams to get to the line. They only rank 63rd in free throws allowed per game.

If the Illini are going to have any chance in this game, their leading scorer will need to step up. With how Shannon has played down the stretch, it is difficult to bet against him.

Clemson vs. Alabama, 8:49 Eastern Time

Mark Sears Over 4.5 Assists (-102)

We're used to seeing the Clemson Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide play huge games in football, but this time they are matching up on the hardwood.

The bet we're going to zero in on is Mark Sears' assist line. Sears is the point guard for 'Bama, and he's averaged exactly 4.5 assists in his last 10 games.

The Crimson Tide were a bit of a dark horse headed into the tournament because of their offense. They were fourth in Torvik's adjusted offensive efficiency metric. Being 10th in effective field goal percentage and 9th in two-point percentage, they should have many opportunities to get assists for Sears.

Clemson were considered a vulnerable sixth seed coming into the tournament. They've obviously proved the doubters wrong, having made the Elite Eight. They aren't the worst defensive team but are only 33rd in the nation in adjusted-defensive efficiency.

The Tigers beat Alabama back in November, and Sears had just three assists. However, 'Bama shot just 34.3% in that game when they shot 47.7% overall for the season.

I like Sears' chances to get some redemption for that performance and post at least five assists in this game.
